Decided to join the blobfest that is TdZ tonight, Baltic in the garage but had a steady ride round.

Usual odd connection an load problems.

Same.

But as I refuse to sprint at the start I ended up in 300th place and spent most of the ride on my own

There was 800+ on mine so let the startline sprinters go and cruised round with the group around 300, although that thinned considerably.

We have a new series starting tonight if anyone fancies some custom sprint races with custom powers ups, mass starts. They are 18:10/18:35 UTC every wed night for 10 weeks.

Got hacked off running Zwift with my ten year old iPad and have just got an Apple TV unit.

Question re connections, is it quite straight forward connecting devices through the companion app?

I was thinking using the two available ports for the turbo and power meter - then linking heart rate and the controllers through my phone. Does that work out ok?

not sure how many Bluetooth channels iPhones have as I’ll need earphones too.

I generally use apple TV and the only physical connections in my setup are HDMI cable and power supply.

Power and cadence Bluetooth to it from the turbo, and HR Bluetooths to it from my watch.

Using it is really simple but updates can be a PITA- very slow - but maybe that’s something wrong with my setup, it’s an old second hand apple TV too.

I don’t really use the companion app so IDK about that.

I use the companion app to connect trainer (power, cadence) hr strap and zwift controllers. Generally works well, but sometimes takes a while to find everything. Probably more to do with my WiFi in the garage than the devices themselves.

Had a bit of a problem with drop outs a while ago, but think I maybe had 2 devices with the companion app open and it would lose touch with the one I was connected through.

I think I misunderstood what it could do. I was thinking you connect devices through the Apple TV and the phone and you pick what/where - you actually choose one or the other, it was a group workout so I didn’t have time to faff.

using a pc monitor is a game changer though compared to the iPad - screen seems massive (that’s what she said)

Got my tiny little apple TV hooked up to a 40 inch TV about 3 feet from my face, I quite like it but it makes everyone else in the family feel travel sick when they try it

“Oh that old thing”

I got home from work late , don’t ask, but still wanted to Zwift and noticed there was a race at 8pm. Entered as a C.

At this stage I was downstairs in full work gear and it as 7.56pm, but clicked to enter the race, legged it upstairs, fired up the Mac, threw on some bibs, grabbed a towel, filled up a bidon and hopped on the bike with about 15 seconds to spare.

Great , except when the race started I didn’t go anywhere. Has skipped the pairing page in haste. So had to dismount, pair, mount and then climb back on and was 30 seconds off the pace of the main group.

The next 10 minutes were an absolute suffer fest as I stomped on the pedals and pulled back the main roup of about 30 riders to 25, 20, 17, 14, 11 seconds… I got as close as 4 seconds at one stage, but then the legs just said NO. Complete detonation, and they rode off into the sunset and I never saw them again.

Limped on for another 20 minutes solo and then had a bath.

This has however resulted in a Strava FTP upgrade, to 254W allegedly (I don’t believe it though).

You’re not a C surely?

I’ve been there in races when you close into a group but can’t quite join up. It’s brutal being out the back of the pack.

He’s just sandbagging as usual and avoiding racing with the rest of us :joy:

Sometimes ABC is simply a different length event. I do the Shortest (C) route in the TdZ. Really it’s Racing Score that dictates what categories you race in now.

I think in this case he’s dropped down when he was in the desert :camel:

I have a hate hate relationship with the Alp.

No hill has destroyed me more. My pb stood from 2020 when I solo road four horseman, gears were wrecked and I had to grind up.

Numerous attempts and only went sub 50 a few times.

Group that did the Everesting had a sub 50 event. Worked out my numbers. All in or bust.

Team mate joined me…. And despite expecting to be slower, rode away early and acted as my annoying carrot.

Every sector over target watts. Pb every corner from 15 thru to 1.

Target sub 49.

Actual 45.46

Still slower than the wife…but only 21 secs.

Did not think I had that. New FTP. Lots of pbs.
