Winter gear

I find that it is fine when consistently below zero, even with snow piled up next to roads, the roads are dry and ice free. biggest issue is warm days and cold nights as roads can get icy. Been caught in falling snow a couple of times on the road bike, which is a bit dicey. Even so I try to ride to work once per week on average over the winter, and saturday club ride was only cancelled once.

Mountain bike on Zugerberg in snow is great fun… cycling with the cross country skiiers

I love running in snow, need to get another pair of Salomon Speed Cross first though.

Running tights + shorts…I like running tights but I just can’t make it look reasonable. Can anyone recommend running trousers?

I’m a fan of Kalenji (Decathlon) run jacket so I might try the Kalenji run dry trousers.

I don’t mind absolute brass monkeys below zero stuff if it’s dry with just ice or snow on the ground. It’s the wet, 4C all day and low light stuff that I find hard work.

Sorry, I run in tights in the snow

Any recommendations for a nice skull cap?

My trusty DHB one is coming to end of life. The newer DHB merino ones don’t seem to be as warm; and despite my pea sized head - they feel quite tight when sunnies on under it.

MUST have good/full ear coverage.

I have a nice one from Gore but overall, I like the Buff ones for running and riding.

I’ve got a nice Rapha one that I’ve been using for the last 7 or 8 years.

It’s lovely and warm and it’s got little tabs on the side to put your glasses legs through so you don’t have to took them underneath onto your ears.

I have a Kalenji one from Decathlon. Nice and thin with a tight fit that also covers the ears. Use it when walking the dog on chillier mornings.

Yeah thin and supple is good. I find the thick/stiffer one cause a massive rustling sound in my ears which puts my off running in them.

Same here. Not sure it’s a great one but FWIW I haven’t replaced it, and I havent thrown it away so…

+1 for the Rapha cap

I have a merino one, it’s got an extra hit for your ears and the back of your head - no complaints with mine

My DHB one cost me about a tenner :flushed:

I’ve got bibs costing less than a Rapha hat :scream:
