That implies a different failure (which I appreciate probably further supports your view!). With low battery, di2 will almost always (I won’t say 100% of the time because I bet there’s a random instance where this fails) shift down to the little ring, but then be too low on battery to shift back to the big ring, as that uses more battery. Even when the front stops shifting, the rear will still work for quite a while, as it requires less power.

It’s a bit of a failsafe designed to ensure you can get home.

Ah, nice! That’s a decent design :white_check_mark:

No, we descended into Glossop and he was in 52 and absolutely scuppered, as the only way is up from there :joy::wave:

Just break the chain and remove the front derailleur and pocket it? Then you’re back in the small chainring, albeit with greater risk of chain drop.

Rest Day

Day 26

With a brain starved of oxygen, i let Mrs eJC turn after 18 mins and me at 20, aiming to catch her during our negative split run.

i never got close, not remembering that it was a 4 minute head start…saw her in the distance on the hilly twists and turns and probably took close to 2 mins out of her on the return which is about what I thought possible…

Tough run…VO2 back to 53 after dipping this week to 52…

Day 27

4 hours of coaching with a little over 1 hour in the kayak at Spring lakes…

Do you have an overall plan here @explorerJC ?

looks like run volume is steadily increasing? :+1:

what sort of pace are you going, vo2max of 53 out to translate to about a 20 min 5km iirc, if all the bits are working properly?

Not as such..I work 15+ hours a day, so it is very hard to stick to a plan…but i would benefit from one if someone was brave enough to kick me up the ar5e every day…

thanks but pitifully slowly…

None of the bits work properly, that’s part of the problem…

No chance of a 20 min 5k at the moment,…but that’s always been my problem; high VO2 max, but low efficiency…

Day 28 - so soon!

4 hours on my feet cheering on at Eton Dorney…a great day watching the racing, but by the time I had completed the day’s plans I was cooked…

Sp a restish day…

Day 29

1 hour on the water in the kayak coaching swimming…followed by a 12k run with an athlete through the Attenborough nature reserve…in the glorious sunshine…

Nice and flat round there.
Used to be a decent evening 10km, IIRC?

pan flat, very pretty and i should use it more regularly…

Not sure about the 10k…not since the pandemic i don’t think…

I never go down there… Far too busy most of the time.

I also can’t run down the river from there to Long Eaton. Messes with my head when the power station seems to end up on the wrong side :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Seems like another lifetime but I used to run there too about 30 years ago when a student at Notts.

Would run out from campus along the canal and then along the river, sometimes got as far as ??Sawley before turning back. Remember Attenborough being pleasant to run through, lots of paths through trees with water around.

that’s quite funny
