2020 UK Middle distance races

New one for @Jorgan
https://www.outlawtriathlon.com/bowood/overview/

A proper shot across the bows of the 113, being on the same date

20 miles between the venues…that isn’t great :sob:

seem a bit ridiculous to me… I guess, in fainess, we don’t know what factors have driven this such as available dates at venue, etc… but that aside, seems rather unnecessary.

Although 113 is always a sell out, and is cheaper and faster than that Outlaw course. Will be interesting if the Outlaw ‘brand’ will draw people away, it’s not ironman, but they do seem to be expanding within the UK (well England anyway).

I guess it depends what you are after. The 113 is no nonsense and a quick course, ideal for 1st timers or more experienced people looking for an early season fitness test. Outlaw might be more of a big event feel? More people, more faff, more money.

They are pushing themselves aren’t they though. Events on the same day as Staffs, Weymouth and now the 113

Interesting! The 113 will be a sell-out anyway for next year, and I had no plans to do it after dong one of Graeme’s Halves on that course for the last 7 years (113 or Cots Classic). I had my eye on Isoman Half, as something different. I will pre register for the Outlaw event, but until I see the price and logistics, I won’t get in a lather over it. Certainly very convenient for me; probably 40 min drive there.

Biggest thing as you guys mention is the clash with the 113 in the same locality. Personally it’s a bit ‘Ironman’ in that respect; when they organise a competing event with Challenge on the same date/country. On the surface that doesn’t seem very classy.

Outlaw Half Nottingham was ÂŁ195 inc fees, so assuming this will be similar, not significantly different to the 113 which is ÂŁ164 nowadays

Doubtless Outlaw Half will involve registration & racking day before, which might be enough to put me off, if I can find something that’s all ‘on the day’ Half wise.

Hopefully the date clash will only be next year, although anything within a couple of weeks will probably have an impact. I’ve only done one 113 event due to the distance and despite the weather it was a great event, really friendly etc. and I’m fairly sure Graham has posted on the forum in the past and seems a genuinely nice bloke.

Oh, and your phone needs some juice ASAP

It’s still going. 1%

Generally not a fan of events who move in existing events on the same day when surely there’s plenty of other options available, as Jeff says even if it moves a bit it’s probably going to make an impact. Coventry half marathon did the same sort of thing attacking the established Kenilworth half when there was absolutely no need to, didn’t sit well with the locals

Maybe ‘Outlaw’ though it wasn’t really an issue, as there is not enough ‘supply’ for HIM events in this area, as the 113 sells-out well in advance every year, and they are just meeting that demand gap. I guess if the date doesn’t move after next year, then that’s more indicative.

Ok, not UK but have wanted to go to St Petersburg for quite some time (and Moscow) and they’ve just announced a 70.3 there, but I’m thin on holidays next year :grimacing:

Just signed up to the Centurion metric distance. Sort of a middle distance but not quite as far. Local to me and early bird entries were a bargain ÂŁ75!

good luck Jgav it’s too close to another race so won’t be at this but it is only down the road for me, top of the bike course is about 3 miles from my house.

My Tri club (Triforce) swim at Stanborough during the summer, so I can get some practice in on the course in advance. Always a help.

Sandman, Slateman, Dalesman, Outlaw X, Battle of Bosworth, and The Avenger Tri all think they’re going to go ahead in August/September.
Any others I’ve missed that were rescheduled earlier in the year?

Cotswold Classic as normal in Aug, and then the 113 postponed from June to Sept

If the Classic really does look like going ahead, and still has spots nearer the time, I may do it. I’d rather not go into an Ironman (if that itself does go ahead) having not done any triathlon in 13 months!

Swashbuckler is rescheduled for the 13th of September.

They keep ‘confirming’ that they are waiting for confirmation though, so no idea if it will happen.
