Exactly, we had a guest speaker in luffbra on the L3, a world champion age grouper, but now in his 60s. He had the same coach 20 years and said after a few years he could have done his own plans and didn’t really need a coach but its so much more than that. The relationship developed more into a mentor, and then more a sounding board. He even said he would never get another coach if this arrangement had to end.
be interesting to know who that AGer was as I might know them if in the 65-69 AG
Alan something I’d need to dig out my notes for surname
I got two people confused looking at my notes, the champion AGer was 50, Alan Harris. I got the points correct though he made. Positive from your question, I had a good read through some of my notes. You forget how much gold you jot down on these courses! I should type it all up!
bit younger then - might have met him but don’t know him
Is the SDW100 a big enough challenge for you next year?
If you train for SDW100 (12th June) and finish then you will be in a good position to kick on from there for the DB (8th Sept). While doing any 100 always drains me for a week or 2, you will then have time to crack some proper mountain training in.
If you are not feeling it then the shadow of the DB will (if you are anything like me) be hanging over you and every missed session and will make you miserable adding to work/general life stress, and better to decide now.
That was my original plan. To train for the 100 then specialise for DBR after but looking how prepared others are (and still fail), I don’t think it will be enough time.
My head is probably somewhere in the middle TBH but then I think I’m being arrogant about not considering a 100 enough of a challenge. (I haven’t even done 100km yet )
I said to Mrs FP last night that if the process ends up being miserable then will the outcome of the event be really worth it? She’s worried about my safety and said to get a motorbike instead.
Festina Lente here, FP.
Mate of mine is a solid ultra runner with winter FKTs for a few lakeland routes, multiple UTMBs, and he said DB was far and away the hardest thing he’s ever done.
Cheers mate, yeah it’s definitely something I’m not underestimating. Will have a serious think.
New to the sport so complete a Sprint and an Olympic
Welcome!
No pirates allowed here … except @fatbuddha , @Symes and maybe one or two others on committee vote
don’t forget @magnacarter. I’m a very lapsed member of that Pirate mob and not raced in yellow and black since 2011!
Welcome @LordWotsit, and good luck!
At the rate we’re going it’ll be a decade since any of us have raced in black ‘n yellow!
In the good old days it was a sea of Pirate yellow and TriTalk blue at every UK and many foreign events.
My goal is to be offered the vaccine…
Oh, wrong thread, should have been 2024 goals.
Yep… some of the races around 2010, the good humoured piss taking between Pirates and TT’ers was bloody brilliant!
I remember my old Lewis TriTalk kit.
