2021 Open Water Swim season lift off

Not too different tbh. Tube from CW to Clapham North is only 10mins of travel time, so the time increase on most of my historic trips is pretty nominal.

I cycled there all of last year simply because of avoiding the tube and that would be quite a bit longer/further, but used to go via public transport pre-Covid. I quite like the “me time” of zoning out and reading a book

If your one of the nutters still swimming then likley you can relate to these guys.

Good film, watching on the plane, rather awkward timing, just as one of the ladies was showing off her 60yr old breasts and being complimented, I was being asked what drink I’d like by the flight attendant (or whatever the correct wording is these days)

Ha, they seemed keen to show of their breasts if I remember.

Arghhhhhhhh, morning swim headspace went today.

Got there, could only see about 6 ft ahead due to the clag being all around and over the loch. Mentally not prepapred 1.

Water seemed to be very cold, in fact much colder than last week when there was ice and frost on the ground… Mentally not prepared 2.

Only managed 5 minutes today, some crawl/ Not good. Headspace, gone!

Bonus is that I have to now go out on the bike to burn off those calories.

Hmmmmm, ominous signs during the drive of not only temps between -1 and -7, but the Loch road white over with frost and in many parts, ice.

Gets to the Loch, and guess what, it’s covered with ice (no shit Sherlock), even the yobs (hah hah) had tried to break it by chucking lots of heavy rocks etc onto it, with little success.

So there you go, tail between legs on drive home in dry wetsuit, not hardcore enough to attempt to break said ice. Excuse number x in a series of y! The end.

I didn’t bore you all with tales from last 2 Sundays did I, sorry

Managed about 3/4 mile freestyle both days, but surreal experience (as I think I hinted at elsewhere on forum).

Sunday 16th 0945, cars already parked although no sigh of anyone, then as I was just preparing to get in the world appeared, dog walkers and swimmers en masse. Week later, Sunday 23rd 0945 - 1030 no one at all, no car, no human, diddly squat. Almost spooky. Surreal after the previous week.

Anyway, just to say, I think I am getting acclimatised now, not in a hardcore budgie smugglers way, more like a what part of the temple am I not covering with thick neoprene way

I think you fully deserve the honour of changing the thread title.
