3rd swim of the year last night, bit colder than last week due to the recent rain I guess, although it was absolutely glorious, when we stopped out in the middle of the broad, the sun was shining and it was almost pan flat, wish I had a gopro or something similar to get a nice pic while we out there

Water is supposed to be getting warmer by now but lasts nights swim resulted in brain freeze and wishing I had my gimp hat on!
Used a swim buoy for the first time as the broad is quite a bit busier now, not as annoying as I expected it to be
I m down in Gloucester for a weekend and fancied some open water swimming. Is there anything about?
Staying north Gloucester.
I prefer cold deep and dark lakes to warm and weedy!
Nice usual hour swim in my local loch, but why o why are there coldspots and hotspots. A first world issue me thinks, but I reckon I’d rather have the temp either continuous cold or unwavering warm. The warm lulled me into a false sense of security… “ah it’s now warming up nicely… what the ouch, that’s a bit chuffin’ tepid again”.
As Alan Partidge said, and they think nurses have it bad
Didn’t fancy pushing the WR out a bit further then, just the additional 1200m!

Lovely swim this morning. Water was just over 22°C so I didn’t bother with the wettie. So nice just to swim in nice temperatures.
Ok. Talk to me about swimming at Bala.
Can you just turn up and it’s a free for all, do what you like etc…
Or is there a company who runs it, pay your money and course to swim around?
Got a weekend camping not too far away next week. Mate suggested swimming at Llanwddyn - a quick google and I can see that’s a terrible idea.
I’ve managed to convince the group chat that heading to Bala is where we need to go. Having not been there myself
Nice, usual weekly 2.5 mile swim, love the wetsuit allowing me to amble, breathing every 5, then 6, then 7 as I tootle up and down. 1.5 hours and just started to feel the tepidness of the Loch. All done, shoulder not happy but shit happens, happy days.
You can just swim, but stick to the edges as it’s bloody freezing in the middle.
Go from the leisure centre, off the pontoon and hug the road, can’t go far wrong with that
Bala is a great swim.
As @Poet says its best from the leisure centre end, but don’t park there, park down at the water we’re you cam also hire SUPs, canoes etc.
If you enter from the jetty & swim about 50/100mtrs from the shore to & from the white house it’ll be about 3k.
When are you in the area? Will you have a bike with you?
@Doonhamer is gonna take you out and kill you on the hills Peacock @Adam . Old school style.
Here?
A few years ago one of my mates parents sold up and moved from Hampshire and bought this place
- last stayed there in 2016 when they have only been there a few months. I think they’ve managed to setup a proper camp site now. We stayed in a guesthouse then. I remember my wife being quite pregnant at the time.
Unfortunately no bike. I’m going to try and sneak a ~ 2 hour ride around Surrey in Friday am. Drive there, setup camp. Get out for a run. Hopefully swim Saturday and get a run in on both Sat/Sun. massive group of us going. Around 20 I think. Typically the forecast is shit!
If only!!
Never get to take my bike away
That looks a lovely spot, I’ve cycled past there a few times. I guess you’re just there over the weekend, if you were there longer I’d bring a bike over for you.
You’re quite correct with the entry point at Bala & although closer to Vyrnwy unfortunately there’s no swimming there.
Plenty of time for the forecast to improve. Ask @gingerbongo, it’s always sunny in Wales.
Next time @Doonhamer
I’m hoping when my kids are a little older and don’t need so much babying I’ll be able to escape for the odd jaunt or two
There’s a reason Wales is so green right
100%
Not sure I’ve ever seen it rain back home come to think of it.
First OW swim of 2021, discounting the two races I’ve done. I’m an idiot. That was so nice. Why have I not made the effort before now 🤦
Bit of a schlep for you now though?
