Hope it’s OK to share this. My club put on 3 races every year and this is usually really popular but we’re struggling for entries this year (having been a bit late setting a date and publicising)
It’s a nice low key local event but the central location means travel isn’t too bad for most. Sprint & Olympic options (Bike is over distance at 30/60km) with OW swim.
ETA (6/7) - unfortunately we had to take the decision to postpone this event until it’s usual date in May next year. We had a handful of extra entries over the weekend but not enough to make it viable. Anyone entered will be given option to defer or full refund.
The Lincs Edge sprint on 18th July cancelled due to local council. Travel restrictions means I can’t take my invite to take on a couple of blokes in Germany on the same date, Jan and Lionel somebody or other.
Likely to do Castle Howard sprint instead, as soon as I can arrange a remortgage to pay the entry fee.
I signed up for Redcar tri at the weekend, it’s on 25th and hopefully the weather will hold up. I should just about be able run 5K
Anyway, was supposed to be draft legal and technically after restrictions have eased, but as it’s been hard for BTA etc to provide guidance they have decided on a non-drafting rolling start type race.
But on road bikes only, partly because it’s a tight technical course and there’ll be quite a few beginners doing it that don’t have tri bikes and it would probably be carnage with people on tri bikes and slower people on road bikes.
So, I’m actually quite looking forward to it, not done much Zwifting recently but given I’m as aero as Spongebob I think I might lose less time on a road bike.
“We are working to update our guidance in line with the latest government announcement (Monday 12 July). Please bear with us while we work with the relevant government departments and agencies to get further clarity. We will issue updates as soon as possible.”
probably too late for your event now.
I’m Chief TO at a big event on Sunday running under COVID rules - and maybe the last running under the current restrictions
Apparently the BTF have just updated guidance tonight and it’s reverting to be draft legal, think I’d rather have had the previous format as I’m unlikely to make a decent bike pack
interesting. not seen anything yet from the BTF with updated guidance for events after the 19th but I suspect they’re directly contacting those events taking place shortly after lockdown is over (especially qualifiers and major events) so they can adapt to the new guidance quickly.
I hope the Redcar organisers get the message out to all those taking part in the draft legal race about the change or I can see some people rocking up with TT bikes expecting it to be draft illegal and finding they’re not allowed to take part!
I’m on the list for Redcar as well! Maybe see you there @jeffb - however, my wife has been contacted via the app to isolate. She’s going to get a test today, so if it comes back positive then I’ll have to miss it hopefully all ok and I’ll see you on the beach!
was talking yesterday to the Race Directors of an event I’m TO at this weekend - they’ve been contacted by quite a few who are having to pull out mostly 'cos of their kids picking COVID up at school so they’re having to isolate
Yep, we’ve had one in the school (dodged my daughter’s bubble luckily) and now one in the childminders household. I have a number of friends with their kids off in isolation in different schools in the area at the moment. It feels like the net is closing down here, but hardly anybody actually has it!
i mean down here. There seems to be the odd case popping up (i’m sure there are lots more that we don’t know about) that is having that disproportional impact, as you note.
We’re getting a bit jittery as school hols about to start, we’ve got mini GBs party all organised, our camping trip etc. Selfish stuff i know, but i really don’t need 10 days isolation and missing out on this stuff that we’ve looked forward to for so long (again, yes i know it’s proper 1st world issues!)
Well, having cancelled the race 3 or 4 weeks ago & receiving my refund I know find myself racking up my bike this evening to have a crack at Altriman tomorrow at 05:30.
I’m quite undercooked as I’ve really not been training in the intervening period & I’ve been fairly stressed this last week jumping through Covid & Brexit hoops while getting our caravan ready with all the stuff that goes with holidaying abroad.
But I’m here now.
Transition is based at altitude (1500+mtrs) so I’ve got that to contend with across all 3 disciplines, the bike has approx 4500mtrs climb & the run has 700mtrs climb over a mixture of trail & tarmac.
