Pretty tight between Joe and RVB on the run. How is Roth going?
Lange and Haug leading.
Leader just stopped to poo
Yeah., Ryf got a 14minute lead on T2
Men’s a bit more interesting, still no insight as to whether Menneson has come out of the bog yet
Predictions of Ryf’s demise seem a bit premature then!
Skipper 8s behind JVB at 23.5km mark
JvB first in 7:39, Skipper 2nd 7:41
2h37 and 2h39 marathons
I did the duathlon today and was right next to @leahnp in transition, I can confirm that he is a real person, great bloke and a bit (lot) of a racing whippet. Although his choice of chainset might be better thought out while racing around bits of the Pennines
Quite a small race, with some trail races and a sprint distance before us. I was feeling a bit rougher than I should have after nearly 2 rest days but was still looking forward to it. It’s not often you share transition with about 20 ducks just outside of it!
From the start the front 2 were off, Leahn and a local lad, I went at a pace I knew wouldn’t kill me off but after about 2K found myself in 4th, front 2 were out of sight and 3rd was going away about 10s per K. Someone did go past me but only got to T1 about 15 seconds in front and wasn’t quick in T1. The run was mixed surface with quite a lot on hard packed trails, but dry enough for road shoes.
I’d only taken the road bike, it’s an undulating course and the TT would have been fine but I wasn’t keen on being that low for 40K. The first 20k went past reasonably quickly, it was more rolling at that point then the tougher climbs and poorer surfaces appeared for the next 16K including a few leg snappers. I’d reclaimed 4th about 1K into the bike but could occasionally see him on a long straight section when I looked back.
Something like 640M of climbing over 40K, but the constant ups and downs meant it was hard to gauge the power, you could be pulling 300-350W for a few minutes then freewheeling.
I had about a minute over 5th coming out of T2, and 3rd was well ahead. I did see the front 2 on the way back across the dam wall so they were about 3.5K in front at that point. It was tough going and when there’s no-one in front or that close behind it’s easier to get into a steady rhythm.
Second run was a bit long but got round in about 23 minutes. I think 6th was about 3-4 minutes back and then a fairly big gap.
Enjoyable day though and the sun got out for the first time in ages. Was good to know what the pain of running with 2 hours hard in the legs is like.
Off to eat my chocolate medal now
Well done Jeff
Did @leahnp win then, or 2nd?
Second, wasn’t much in the runs and Leahn had a few problems on the bike with traffic etc
Sorry been to see Shang-Chi once I got back so just online now (thanks @funkster).
I too can confirm the @jeffb is real and is a top bloke. Riding a x1 55T with a 11-28 cassette was not the smartest of choices but I was never really going to challenge Rocker on that course. I did my now famous first km 3:08 to see who was going to come with me and only Paul did so I knew then it was going to be tough. It was only my second standard distance duathlon so plenty to work on for the British Champs next month.
Altriman dropped their video over the weekend but I’m not sure anyone other than @awildt will understand more than 20% of it . You do however get to see the swim start & quite a bit of bike footage although I feel that the toughness of the run is underplayed.
There is a brief shot of me wearing my Wrecsam Tri top in the background while sorting out my drinks around 8:40 in
@jeffb the Derwent Du photos are now up on Facebook
Seeing as I was here I just did Tenby Swimathon. First ever 5k. Actually quite enjoyed it strangely. Time passed really quickly unlike most pool swims. Was a bit disappointed to turn up and find it was a high sided pool, and from 1-2k it was really looking like being a long day as my pace was certainly slowing. But strangely, just before halfway, I seemed to find something from somewhere and sped up quite a bit. Must have been a 20+ second negative split.
Lap counter called me finished 2 lengths early, but told here I had two more to do. Finished with an official time of 1:24:39. Pleased with that
After sacking off Dorney 20 miler for something a little less harsh on the legs I picked up an entry for Forest Runner 10k at Westonbirt Arboretum. This was just meant as a bit of a warmup race before my marathon and was finishing a 100km week.
I had no idea of the course apart from a rough idea of the surface would be like, loose fine hard packed gravel. I took my vapourflys in a bag but decided after arriving it was much more of a family event and sticking on bright orange shoes, I was gonna look a right bellend and the surface was not good for them.
Lined up a few off the front and set off and soon realised a top 3 should be do able. Front 2 got a fair distance out and it was soon just me and buggy man. First 2km passed at 3:30 and 3:40, got to 4km and he was still sat on my shoulder, at this point I thought, sod this I don’t wanna kill myself for a top 3, and backed off the pace and let him pass so I could sit on his shoulder for a bit. There was a small downhill which he flew down then came a long gentle incline at 6km. Obviously he was gonna struggle here so I passed and started to put some distance in. Soon came past the guy who was out front who had pulled up. So now it was just a case of keeping buggy man at bay for a P2.
Finished with a time of 36:30 and a 2nd…I mean DQ. My late bought entry meant I was Judith for the evening. The race organiser got shitty about it and then gave me a full diss over the PA when annoucing the podium results for not ‘being able to follow the rules and to see him if I had a problem with it’
TL DR. Battled a guy pushing a buggy over 10km at a family event for 2nd place to then get DQ’d.
Diversity and inclusion mate, doing your bit.
