Died a little on the final lap and lost two places, but still finished just a shade outside 37:30. I’ll take that time on such a course, and top 5 is nice. Weird having a TT start, with four people going off every few seconds
I entered my first triathlon (a sprint) in Dawlish for September. Lots of time to train, but have a bad habit of not sleeping the night before events where I know I need to sleep hah.
I was also thinking I should do 2 , so might go for a London sprint one. But the ticket costs close to £100… not including hotel and train.
Yes, I agree £100 does seem very steep for a sprint. Not sure I could stomach the cost of that.
Re sleep, I’d say as long as you’ve had decent sleep in the week leading up to your event you’ll be fine. The night before you’ll be full of nervous energy
I always pack head phones when travelling especially for the night before a race gives you time to relax and block out the noise of the hen party next door……
£100 for a sprint seems to be a bit steep, in the absence of races you could look at TTs held by your local cycle club and road races with local running clubs. My local clubs hold events every week now the restrictions have been lifted so it gives you an opportunity to race or train at a higher intensity. Welcome to TT
£100 for a London sprint entry is about normal for London Triathlon events - the costs of putting these on at Excel and with closed roads in what is a busy city is what rockets the costs up. Back in the day it was the busiest tri weekend in the world but even then it was still a lot pricier than many others. London tri now tends to be the charity equivalent of London Marathon and is shunned by many of the more experienced athletes and full of beginners and newbies.
First race of the year at the Carlisle Duathlon (4.3 km/24km/4.3) and bagged 2nd overall and 2nd Vet, lost out on the top spot by 20s . Happy with my run splits so my av pace was 3:25 for run one and 3:33 for run two. The wind picked up during the day and the winner was in the first heat to be fair I doubt I could have made up the 20s though.
