2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire

I still can’t decide about Copenhagen, whether to try and defer to another race or see if it gets cancelled.

I suspect smaller races will go ahead, Helvellyn had about 450 people and was fine, and that was pre-vaccine.

I think you’re right.

Smaller events and races like Outlaw and the 113 etc that are based out of the way so to speak will have a better chance then Ironman being based in town centres. Any council will be nervous about that circus coming into to town and everything that it brings

I really hope Vitoria give the credit option. EU vaccine rollout still seems way slower than here. I’d jump all over that, and if they make it “Spain only” in a similar way, that still potentially opens up Lanza 2022!

TBF, I’m fed up with it.
CBA to race, CBA to defer :sob:

We weren’t going to move house in 2019, I’d been training very well for six months around not working full time and spring/summer 2020 were looking rosey.

After all of “this” my priorities are a lot different :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Looking forward to Southport as that’s only an hour :grimacing:
Anything more than that requires a bit of effort and not just some luck and retained fitness.

Meh.

Hmm. I thought they’d be more confident sounding than that now.

I’ve asked for a deferral or refund as event credit many times for this and constantly been denied. So now hoping it is postponed to take the 3 year credit.
NZ offered the same 3 year credit to Oceania events.

I think the date is slightly unfortunate for them.

A few weeks later and we’re supposedly without any social restrictions

Yes.
They are absolutely hardcore at denying refunds.

They’ve left a very sour taste in my mouth.

They do seem to have softened a bit though. The credit option seemed to materialise at the back end of 2020 (was Cascais one of the first, at least in Europe?) and now seems to be being offered for all subsequent deferrals as they happen.

I think they’ve realised that spreading the deferred athletes over a number of years and races is probably a better outcome for them, as they can then at least earn new revenue from the places it frees up on events that do go ahead.

Logged into RWGPS to create a route for Sunday and I see that the official IMUK user has been busy creating routes…

…here are the Staffs ones (run looks to be quite a bit short! which on an out and back course shouldn’t really be a thing!) Both are very similar and seem to tackle the congestion and cross-over points:

Folks on Staffs Imj style facebook page have email responses from the council stating the original race date isn’t on - Later dates are being discussed.

Hopefully that’s my bacon saved from consecutive half’s then

Cheers @Adam

So this race is definitely not happening on that date now.

Like some sensible have said in the Facebook comments;
We’ve probably not heard anything from IM as they’re hopefully trying to change the Bolton date to suit the Staffs date.

I’m not keen on doing either this year
Even more so if Staffs is after IMUK.

I quite like going down to half after racing a full.

But yeah I don’t see this happening on the original date. I think they’d be lucky to get it signed off at all. Unless they move it away from the town centre base.

Has there been any discussion re Bolton date?

Not seen any, but interesting the “contingency” run course doesn’t finish in the town centre in front of the town hall - just by the bandstand in the park :man_shrugging:t4:

ETA; Keep your eye on this page. Bolton Town Council require at least ten weeks notice of any road closures (for example, see the Peaky Blinders road closure on Le Mans crescent from Thursday of this week)

People who know more than I do are telling me the council are keen for IMUK to take place , as it will bring much needed trade into the area.

The run route change no one knew anything about but it sounds most likely with distancing and stuff.

We now have even more evidence that vaccination is very good at suppressing transmisison, Israel has been open with partial vaccination for many weeks now and R has stayed resolutely below 1 in a way never seen before, so either herd immunity was reached and never noticed, or vaccinating over 40’s is plenty.

Doesn’t get away from the problems of all the frightened priveleged people not wanting any of it, but the data would say race.
