Likely unable to do all 4, might take the Weymouth option but assume there’ll be no transparency on what would happen if it’s cancelled.
I’m rolling to 2021.
Entered Staffs to qualify for NZ. Have already booked flights to NZ to move there/Aus.
Emailed regarding any potential transfer of entry towards Taupo 2021 (which is still on early bird entry) given I won’t be around for Staffs, was met with a very firm no.
Rules are rules, but seems a waste from IM and just poor service compared to what other companies are offering.
That’s a bit annoying, but for some reason IM seem to only allow transfers within the same continent.
They’ve said they could have transferred my entry to Taupo, but it’s past the deadline due to the large amount of organisational work it requires. Given its 8 months away, still on early bird Tier 2 entries, I’d have thought a company would at least try and find a solution that works for both parties. Eg offering to transfer X% (even if only 50-75%) of your entry fee and keeping the rest to compensate for this mysterious mountain of admin.
That would give them some money kept from my Staffs entry, additional money I’d pay for Taupo entry, and an additional space for someone else to enter Staffs 2021.
Instead they’re keeping all of my Staffs entry, with no incentive for me to withdraw and offer that space despite it being 11 months away.
With those facts, you probably could raise a charge back claim on your credit card, given they’ve not delivered what you paid for, and you are unable to make use of the future “race credit” they are offering. Poet successfully did it for Staffs and Bolton I believe
You would think it wouldn’t be beyond them to show some flexibility especially when it benefits all parties…
So 15 weeks…
Am I right in thinking it’s easier to stay near T2 with buses being provided in previous years to the swim start? (obviously no idea if this will be the case now)
You in???
I’ll be driving down to rack and register
Then back home
back down race morning.
back home.
Not sure how it works with the swim being a wiggly 90km from T2

There’s some stuff about washing your wetsuit too.
I think mine May disintegrate if it touches anything other than water

Yeah. Rolled over from last year.
Got to be honest I’ve not thought about this race in a long time!
I don’t think I can stomach to drive there and back on both Saturday/Sunday and pay for that toll road 4 times!
Looks to be 20 odd miles / 30 minute drive between T1 and T2 - Ironman still say they’re running shuttle bus on the Saturday/Sunday. So I guess a b&b in Staffford would be preferable
Is that not just copied over from 2019?
I’ve still got £38.95 on my M6 Toll tag.
Just drive straight through and expense it

Local journeys are now £29 for 10, so you can come on and off around Cannock etc.
“But Thomas, why were you going to work when you’re not in the office?”
Erm

Yeah you’re right it probably is.
I’ve just booked 2 double rooms in Staffs for £100
I guess I could piss my other half off and get her to drive me to the swim in the morning if they don’t offer the coaches
You seen the email @Poet ?
Those rooms you booked refundable?
I reckon (hope!) Bolton won’t go ahead, either.
I’ve not seen any road traffic orders on the Bolton/Rossendale Council websites for the event date.
Yeah. Fortunately got free cancellation on those rooms. I’d say June 13th is highly unlikely.
Guess we just have to see what they say
Very tempted with an Outlaw half entry now though
I’m guessing it’s been cancelled? re-arranged later in the year, or rolling to 2022?
Not yet.
They say they’re working for June 13th or a later date. Given some options too which seems to be a change in tune from them
That’s not a bad response and alternatives, certainly better than they’ve offered in the past.
Ideally they’ll be able to confirm soon if it is cancelled otherwise you’ll need to continue some training, luckily I’m sure that will carry over to other races that will happen and you’d probably be training anyway.
Later on might clash with Weymouth, Wales or Cork if they are organising that.
Yeah it’s not bad for Ironman really.
A later date will be good for the swim anyway
