2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire

Not a sniff.
Looking at 2019 and prior results, a sub-4:30 at Staffs is equivalent to a sub10 at Bolton :exploding_head:

I had a look at last years results. Sub 4:30 and you’re on the podium

Last year sub 4:30 was the first 18 athletes :exploding_head:
I know it was hotter than the sun, plus post-Covid, so I disregarded that.
Bike is also long at 91.8km from RWGPS.

Could you tell them, please @Adam ?
Not a chance I’m going under 4:30

Also, Was the swim short last year?
Some utterly rapid times there :exploding_head:

I had the swim pretty much bang on

I’m still saying a sub 5 is a good day out there.

If you can get down into 4:40 - 4:50 you’ve had a blinder in my book.

Excellent news, Smithers.
Shame it’s a rolling start, I’ll need to find some feet sharpish!

2,580 people registered :exploding_head::exploding_head:

That’s utterly nuts.

Jesus. That’s a huge field.

Seed yourself high, you don’t want to be stuck behind too many bikes on the first 20km or so of that bike course

I’m gonna jump on RGT at some point to do the first 20km again :+1:t3:

Seed high = first bus?
Or can I just push to the front of the line?

At IMUK, people were being absolute wimps.
I could see @SidSnot about 20 people in front of me.
There was literally nobody in the sub-60 line.

If it’s like that, then I could arrive at 0655 and just worm into the sub-30 pen :+1:t3:

Or is it not like that there?
Is it just start and off you go no matter what swim swapped you are?

From the pontoon they organised everyone into self seeded expected swim times. Just one massive long line - just get to the front of it.

I can’t remember the exact times but the guns Like Ian Dempsey went off in the sub 26 pen, I then went off at the back of the sub 28. Like you say people wuss out and stand there like lemons.

I always try and squeeze into the pen that’s slightly faster than me in a effort to swim with some quick guys. Worked out last year

They still have covid measures in place last year and it was all mask wearing etc. hopefully a bit better this year

I remember that, no-one seemed to want to go in first…think I was about third in the water…same at Lanza…

All things which are solved with an “in water” mass start :+1:t3:

No effing about with goggles coming off due to diving, either.

Just gotta watch those feet and avoid getting kicked in the first 200m :+1:t3::facepunch:t3:

Ooh, just had a guy join my IM thread on another forum that’s pretty hot on the duathlon circuit.

Nice for you all to have some competition  Unless one of you guys real name is Ben that is.

Other forum you say?

Staffs is the only race Ive been in the front group in the queue. The Pros were within spitting distance. And I swam 34 with a break on my back to clear my goggles.

So yeah, they were absolute wusses lining up and I had a flight to catch that afternoon.
