Worse case get across Blackpool and tag onto someone’s hen or stag do.
I suppose it depends on what you want out of it. Bramley, for me was going to be a tune up for a marathon I’m not doing. We want to head to Mum’s probably Sunday and the race is in the other direction anyway, so I won’t really regret not doing it.
I haven’t invested like you have with accommodation though.
How did you both get on then?!
I though it was the toughest race I have done.
Running into that wind was horrendous and probably the first race I haven’t enjoyed doing haha
I’ve just seen your time, well done in that. I think there was only about 30 people that broke 90 minutes? And the winners only did 1:17.
I’m traumatised ![]()
It was essentially 4*5K. That wind was horrific, I knew I wasn’t feeling great after about 7K then turned round at the north end and considered walking it home. There was times we were almost running on the spot, then a gust would blow you sideways.
Alongside the ultra 3 years ago that is definitely my toughest ever. I didn’t want to push too hard for the second 5K with the tailwind as I knew what was coming.
Last 4K took about 23 minutes ![]()
Just scraped under 1:41, granted I should have been a couple of minutes quicker and didn’t use the supershoes. It’s not as flat as you might think either.
In the end I just treated it as a training session although my HR was fairly steady despite everything.
Well done on your time and position.
The organsiers put on a good race, no frills but very enthusiastic.
Good work chaps ![]()
Well done, sounds memorable!
Echo those thoughts @jeffb I really felt like jackng it in when running into that wind and like you say the second stretch with the tailwind wasn’t enjoyable as you knew what was coming!
Ended up 6 minutes slower than 3 years ago but loads more effort.
I am down for the marathon there in April so fingers crossed for good weather.
Pity I didn’t know you were racing as we could have had a chat at the finish.
I did a 1:27 about a month ago but was initially aiming for around 1:35. We were probably not far away from each other for the first few miles so yes, bit of a shame.
Good luck with the full and hopefully the weather will be better.
10K road race today. Last one of those was on this course 2 years ago just before we all went indoors.
No idea where my form is, I’ve been running, but not really run training. Thought a sub-38 would be par, sub-37 a stretch, so very pleased with 36:20.
Strava tells a story, through 5k within a few seconds of my 2020 race, but 2 minutes quicker for the return. Conditions were favourable, cool, sunny and only a slight breeze on the out leg of the out and back course. For once I managed to not get carried away at the start, I just sat in to take shelter, then pushed on for the home leg and was able to pick off several groups of runners.
So much nicer to run a race when you pace it properly!
Top stuff, well done. ![]()
Well done Buzz, I reckon it’s those savage TTT’s that have helped ![]()
That may be true, although not doing them for the last few weeks probably helped too! Legs were fairly fresh.
Top bombing @buzz
Bit of a dilemma for me today. Entries for Arc opened this evening. Apart from Endure 24, I don’t really have qualifying races any more, as I assume 2019 results are now too old.
I emailed the race org and they said not to worry because if I finish their Plague race in July (64miler that starts at 12.05am), I get automatic entry into Arc.
I guess that takes the pressure off in one way and adds it in another ![]()
Finally did a race. 10k at Kempton Park. Its been a roller-coaster 4-5 months of illness, overworked, and building construction stresses, but feel like I’m getting somewhere again. Still a long way off pbs (the last time I wore the race shoes I ran in today I did a 17:04 5k pb), but I thought beforehand that breaking 40mins today for the 10kwas unlikely. So to run 38:49 is a promising sign off such haphazard training, especially with a fairly strong wind. I don’t think I’ve run a single km faster than about 4:10 since new years day parkrun.
6 weeks to Boston, so hopefully I can string together a decent final month of training.
Good work nice to have a 38:xx under bonnet after a shut build up.
Hey @Chriswim , you like Tassie. here ya go. Not quite 2022
I’m all over it ![]()

My missus is contemplating doing one 70.3 one day as an try and finish, both debating doing Hobart but will be a tough course, hillier than NZ and that will scare her off I suspect. Got a rough idea where they’ll send the bike and run as not many options to keep it even vaguely manageable, and ironman won’t go looking for savagery I don’t think.
But it’s 8 months after Cairns, and the same week my contract ends in Aus so would work out well for me before coming home in 2023. If not then I’d like to contemplate Wanaka/Taupo as destination races which are same time.
