2022 races

Remember, this is a country that has a big desert called ‘The Great Sandy Desert’, a bay that’s full of sharks called ‘Shark Bay’ and an alpine region called ‘The Snowy Mountains’.

Why waste drinking time thinking of fancy names

I’ve been to quite a few of them, the Ugg Boots is a new one on me. I’ve stayed at the Gold Panner Inn a few times when the road to Parkes was a goat track and it took 8hrs to drive there from Sydney (it’s way way quicker now)

The Big Merino is a classic and a few hours further south you have the Dog on the Tucker Box at Gundagai.

The Big Macadamia is a pretty good stop, more than just nuts there. In terms of popularity/ notoriety , I’d say the Pineapple, Prawn and Banana are the most well known, certainly on the Syd-Qld road trip circuit.

Local fell race for me on Sunday, the first race in 2020 was one of the last races pre-covid in the country, most other races that weekend had been cancelled. It was a weird atmosphere standing in a group of about 200 people near the start checking no-one had any cold symptoms

It’s nearly 25k but tough, although it has been so dry recently the conditions underfoot should be fairly good until we get onto the heather.

Doubt I’ll be anywhere near the 2:50 I did last time but it is really just a long run in prep for Boston and as long as I don’t get a niggle I’ll be pleased.

I’ve got my first fell race since July '19 tomorrow, 10km/600mtrs should be a cracking day .

Thinking of cycling the lumpy 35km there & back .

Do it!

Option 1 - you do well, you’re a fucking legend.

Option 2 - you don’t do well, you’ve got a ready made excuse!

Unfortunately he rolled his ankle and gammied it up a few days ago. So he’s either gonna swim bike to plan then trot the run or totally smash the swim bike and not bother running.

That’s great!!!
Wonder what the conditions were like?

Is the race from Playa Blanca?
Sea was rough when I went there.

From his pool times, I’d expect him to swim quicker than that…unless he suffers from the same fate as I do?
That pool times never translate to OW :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Also, must be SUPER tough doing an OW race having had zero practice for months … so … WELL DONE DAVE :sunny::clap:t3:

Standard duathlon champs tomorrow so heading down with the boy to give it another go. Foolishly I agreed to do an interview for British Triathlon about the champs and how we both fared last year. They sent it out to all of the local media outlets as well so we have been asked to do local radio etc. :man_facepalming:

Ah bugger, I’d seen him mention his ankle but not realised it was serious enough to compromise his race!!

Looks like he’s done T2 so guessing he’s going to go steady?

First 3 :joy:

Yeah he’s rolling along nicely.

Clearly sandbagging with the ‘ankle’ issue
