Thanks Jeff. Yeah, pretty happy with a 1:24:09. Nearly 5mins off a pb, and basically bang on my marathon pb pace (2:48), but it’s decent progress from where I was even a month ago after yet another chest infection.
I ran it pretty steady, and had a small negative split which was nice. I didn’t have much left by the end, but it was definitely a very different way to run a half than my pbs where I’ve been on the rivet inside 5k! I also feel absolutely fine now as well, so should be straight back on it this week for the final couple of bigger weeks.
It’s making me think 3hrs might not be entirely out of the question in Boston. 3:05-3:10 definitely feels a reasonable expectation, so at least it might not be an absolute slog fest which is what I was fearing a few weeks ago!
I am feeling VERY far behind all these TTers making great starts to the 2022 season!!!
Dont worry there is always someone in worse shape than you. Like me
thanks Poet. I was 27 second off a club standard so was a little gutted to miss it but its not a quick course so happy with the time. I usually use Ashby20 as my Marathon pace run and assume ill run the same pace for London in April. I just ran to HR yesterday and took whatever time I got and it worked quite well as I went from 6-10th in lap one and then back up to 6th including two places in the last couple miles as two runners ended up seemingly stuck in treacle!
The winner did an absolutely insane 1:45
Morning all, long drive back so didn’t get home until after 10 and way too tired to write anything.
2nd in my AG despite taking 4 mins off my previous time in tougher conditions, I was beaten by almost 4 mins. 1 min on run 1 and 2:50 on the bike.
8.6km run in 29:31 (3:25km pace) and still ran a 16:33 5km (3:19) …1 min improvement
38.6km bike 56.16 NP 248W 0.8IF 2 min & 10W improvement
4.3km run 14.39 (3:33km pace) 35s improvement
Last year I was 10th overall and this year 21st and the quality of the field was immense.
In the 5 months since the last champs I have improved and excited what can happen with the qualifiers as well as the worlds and euros. My biking has purely been indoors so moving into the TT season will give me more of the threshold work.
0.8IF seems a bit low for an Oly-ish bike distance? Was that a conscious choice to allow you to run better on Run 2? Still an amazing result of course!
0.8 IF was my target, my thinking is that unlike a triathlon the legs have already had a beating so it’s more damage limitation and setting up a better 2nd run.
The course is pretty lumpy so you are working on the climbs but never pushing full power due to the descents
Makes sense. Thanks
Was it feeling windy down there?
It can be quite exposed on parts of the track, and it was windy up here (20 miles north east of Oulton
Yeah - loads of my old Derby pals do it.
It was pretty much perfect for London Mara prep.
Do you Still get a nice hoody for finishing?
Yeah I think I’ve got four hoodies now. Yesterday was black so I quite like it!
Yesterday was the 30th anniversary too so got a one off medal (the medal says 2020 on)
It was pretty blowy the long straight and past the start finish was a headwind so the power is up there and drops with the tail wind past the tight right hander by the pond
I was in the middle distance race , I feel your pain !
I did have a look for you in the results. It was tough day out for 14 laps in the wind. I did the MD last May thought about going back for another go and then I sobered up.
In for the 50km., nice benchmark and no logistics!
Nice! Can’t beat an event where you roll out of your own bed an hour before the start
Got one of those in November, trouble is the idea is to get as far awway from where you start as possible which of course means every step is away from your bed/beer
this one goes within about 200mtrs of my house about 3/4 of the way in .
