2022 races

Quality stuff. Though not even having a lap clock at a track meet is very weird indeed!

I’ve always been tempted to try something like this, never got round to it though. Like you, I’d be scared of doing lore than one event in a night as I know if totally drain myself at the first race.

Deffo some more to give at the 1500m I’d reckon. And those times would certainly indicate a sub 10 3km

No hiding on the track, great racing @BadAsh

Years ago - probably 20 :sob: :joy: - I used to do a bit of track. At the league meets there was only my mate & I who would fancy any of the “endurance events” & the kids would do the sprinty & field stuff. I was normally the “B” runner & it wasn’t regular for me to to the 800/1500 whichever was being raced, the 3000/5000 & 2000/3000 'chase…which was normally the event I targeted.

Three races would leave me wrecked for a few days, but my mate was known to do the 400 hurdles, high hurdles & pole vault if reqd :joy:  :joy:

ETA, 800 time that I remember was 2:04, 1500 was 4:12, 3000 was 9:13, 5000 was 16:12, & 3000sc was 9:30.

This explains a lot.

So turns out Doony was indeed a speed demon. Kept that one quiet.

Seriously good work. Kudos. Would love to do a bit of track.

How old are you BadAsh if it’s not too rude a question? 57 secs for 400m is 25kmh :exploding_head: Seriously impressive

Well done.

I’ve done a huge number of triathlons, TTs, run races - and one track event. It was a mile, a modest 5:32 but it stands out for sheer f£&king agony. Absolute pain fest, never forgotten it!

As I say well done!

Thanks. I was 42 a couple of weeks ago. I have to admit I surprised myself a bit with the 400m, and am starting to question if perhaps I should focus on the short short stuff rather than perhaps the 5k/10ks, which I think has been more of a target.

Had a bit of a midlife crisis over the last year where I’ve tried TTs (only 10m), cyclocross, crit races & started training at the track. All relatively short, and really ‘enjoyed’ it all, if that’s the right word. As @TROSaracen says, these short distances are a different kind of pain :joy:

Opening my 2022 Tri ledger this w/e with a sprint tri. For some reason I don;t seem to have done a pool based sprint for about 4 years. Plan is to go out at an unsustainable pace and sustain it…and throw in the flying mounts/dismounts that I haven’t done (or practised) for those 4 years…what could possibly go wrong…

Since you ask. I did one, foot slipped, shoe rotated, struck the ground and wedged, throwing my toe into the rear wheel slicing a chunk off it. Carried on and gave up 3km into the run with a shoe soaked in blood. Then it got infected.

Youll be fine.

After a day of constant rain/drizzle things brightened up around 4pm & the sun was out long enough to make running conditions perfect. After witnessing & hearing about low race attendances it was heartening to see so many people turning up for a £5 Mickey Mouse midweek fell race.

My run didn’t go as I’d hoped. I knew on the first climb - of 3 - that it wasn’t going to be my night, the engine room just didn’t seem to be obeying my orders.

Jez danced off after a couple of minutes never to be seen again

Simon was right on my shoulder for 7 or 8 mins, it would’ve been longer but I put a dig in to get to the kissing gates before him to allow myself a micro recovery. This gamesmanship didn’t give me the glorious victory I’d hoped for & much to my disappointment - climbing was always my forte - he pulled away on the 2nd hill & our elastic snapped.

I then had some wrestles with a couple of lads & managed to take them on the final technical descent before settling into my position & cruising down Donkey Hill, the final tarmac descent. You can imagine my surprise/disgust as I heard the size 13’s of my clubmate - Dibber - slapping on the road behind me. Knowing I didn’t have his kick & hoping he’d spaffed his load catching me I wound up my kick & was at full ramming speed as I nicked 9th place (2nd V50) at the line.

The other Simon was beaten quite comfortably & Pete was too scared to turn up.

Great to see so many happy, smiley people & the local school will have a nice wee injection into it’s coffers. Hoping to get along to a few more local races as summer opens up.

I thought the field looked a bit small TBH, the fell champs was also on in Guisborough (one of my training routes!)
[/quote] thats crackers! which numpT arranges these dates. Just 450 starters in 2022. My only comparison is 700+ for when I did it in 2010.

I think the entry requirements put some people off as well for the 3 peaks.

It does but I didnt have the pre qually FRA races but if you just email em with How Wonderful you are , or put some race times in the notes box, they let you straight in . Worked For Me!
