Sounds about right for 2022. If you want to do it and can afford it, then why not?
Local 10k has gone up from £18 to £24. Blenheim sprint is what £125 now?! Everything is more expensive than it used to be.

I don’t think local races should get a free pass on charging what they want but I’ll give them a bit more latitude and a bit less scrutiny than I would the big outfits.
This is kind of why I’ve started with aquathlons rather than a full blown tri. The little local races are £20 or less and are good value for a little multi-sport foray. I’ve not found a sprint triathlon for under £55 and I can’t really justify that with the amount of cycling I do.
They do offer an aqua bike but thats still 58 quid.
Im not overly put off by the cost but I just thought it seemed a lot, considering the swim and run are contained within a private place.
The convience alone makes it worth ago, plus having not swam open water for a few years Ive developed a bit of a fear for it. But ive swam in this lake many times and there are no surprises.
10k last night. It was warm!
This is as much as my ‘home race’ as I’m ever gonna get. Its in the park I run in 3-5 days a week and run the roads the route are on all the time!
Tried not to sit in the sunshine waiting around and overheating before things even got started. Usual last minute toilet visit. Had a feeling of imposter syndrome as I squeezed myself in at the front row, loads of people in club kit and me standing out a mile off! Off we went, 2 lads shot off, made a decision it wasn’t gonna be wise to go with them. Found myself leading the rest for the first 500m, mmmm this isn’t what I was wanting. Let a couple of younger lads and an older guy come past to give me some people to sit behind. Older guy was soon going to slow. Tucked in behind the young lads till about 3km. Checked my watch, the pace was well off what I wanted and it wasn’t feeling particularly easy in the heat either and next to no wind. I decided to pick up the pace anyway and crack on. The idea of a PB was sacked off and my focus was on getting 3rd place. I soon opened up a reasonable gap behind me. Second lap, and the older guy was now holding a decent gap behind me. Last 2km and he was slowly starting to close on me and I was feeling the strain. I opened the legs up as much as I could but he was still getting closer. I would be fuming with myself if I let 3rd place slip in the last km. Turned onto the finish 600m, another glance over the shoulder and he’d obviously blown and wasn’t closing anymore, I just put in what was left and finished 3rd with 36:28 with £20 of cold hard cash as my reward!
Also @buzz found me for a brief chat! Nice to meet you!

could do with a couple of bic razors ![]()
Turns out if ‘the older guy’ had caught you for 3rd, I might have got some cash as 1st old man. I can’t believe you even get close to your PB on a course like that, I had a 30sec swing in km splits depending on up or down the hill.
Turns out I can do hills quite well these days. Better than most anyway. 2nd (35:09) said he was 15 sec off his PB as well, so same as me.
I’m conflicted as I have a club 5 mile trail race next Tuesday which I have managed to win for the last 4 outings but I really want to win a duathlon that is being hosted the next day. I know that I am of an age where recovery is important
How ‘hard’ will it be to win the club trail race? And are you prepared to cap your effort and accept the result?
Or just go for it - it’s all training.
Nice running @buzz & @Sowler ! Either of you doing Heddington 5k next week? I’ve heard it’s a fast course, so in an ideal world I’d be aiming for a PB, but don’t feel on top form at the moment and I’m doing a track meet the day before.
So glad I am not doing IM70.3 Switzerland on Sunday… current forecast 38 degrees. Luckily the forecast for cooler weather from Monday, so IM Frankfurt is looking dry, partly cloudy and 26 degrees
Early indication is that Roth the following week will be similar
When I did it about 6 or 7 years ago it was similar, car said 36c or something and part of the run when through some gardens or something where the heat just radiated up. There was a lot of people walking!
That could be dangerous ![]()
Yeah the list of things I wouldn’t want to be doing in 38 degree heat is long, and top of it is an Ironman
Water in Rapperswil is currently 21.8, with 3 very hot days, could be non wetsuit… to be honest with the forecast temps, non wetsuit is probably a wise choice. As far as I remember there isn’t any shade on the run course either
