2022 races

Nice one @jeffb. Remind me to never expect anything from you in a race :grinning:.

Well done @jeffb

Fair enough on not helping :rofl:

Haha, the ones that were already off course were getting back on by the time I realised and too far ahead.

I did help the guy who was just overtaking me and beat me :joy:

Forgot to put that I did 2:09:xx, so with the full swim and slightly long run I’d have probably done what I predicted

Sprint race at the weekend. Split into 3 waves and I was in the middle one - not sure how they were sorted. Started in the lake but everyone was spaced out so no drama. My target was 10 something for the 750 swim after swimming some low 10s in the training in the week before. I had to slow/stop a couple of times after catching up with the 1st wave. My arms get really tired in my wetsuit - I’d really like to try out a more flexible suit. Came out in 11 flat. T1 - my ankle felt pretty rubbish on the run up to bike on the hard floor.

Decided to put socks on in T1 after my ankle injury not worth any discomfort. Onto the bike and tried to put down some solid effort - AP 278w - and my target was 278 - so bang on! No power meter - just based on effort so I’m pleased with that.

Run course had standard and sprint on the same course. Not sure if it was because I was on autopolit or someone was stood in front of the sign but I missed the turnaround point :see_no_evil: On the 2nd lap, a marshall was stood in front of it and shouted Sprint turn here! Looks like I ran an extra 750m compared to the route. My average HR was 160 and target was 165, so feel I could have worked harder :sloth: Ended up finishing 1st in age group in a small field. Lesson learned to review the route next time! I did look - but it wasn’t clear (to me) that standard/sprint would run different routes.

Haha, awesome. Running extra and still winning!

Any silverware? Or even a certificate?

Or a map of the course LOL ?

Great effort :+1:

Nothing! Although for the cost of entry I think I’ll be emailing them  I did the same when I won a solo swim run event. They gave out prizes to pairs but not solo. Sent them a feedback email and blagged some from merchandise!

@fruit_thief there was a map of the course but I just didn’t realise the turnaound was so soon up the road. Everyone was steaming up the hill and I followed!

After last weeks 10k time, I’ve signed up to the local running clubs 10k tomorrow night to see if I can crack a sub 36 10k. Without the hills and some shoulders to sit on, hoping I can find at least 15 seconds.

Better course? Better field to latch onto?

If yes to any of the above, I don’t see why you shouldn’t be dipping closer to 35.30 on your times that I’ve seen.

I don’t know the exact route annoyingly, I’ve got a rough idea, but its in the park (estate?) I run in most days so I know where all the quick spots are and it definitely won’t be as hilly as previous which is deemed locally a pretty tough road circuit.

I thought there was a better field, however now I’ve just checked again and I don’t know what I was looking at :man_facepalming: 2019 results below.

I might have to change strategy and just go out with the front runners and try and hold on for as long as possible :grimacing: :see_no_evil:

Yeah that’s not looking ideal is it. Guess you may as well go for that strategy, nothing to lose. Then look for a decent road 10km later in the year. One that’s well attended by the local running clubs, so you can get a nice bit of help between the 35-36 mark. :+1:t3:

Not sure what you are comparing it to, but I wouldn’t say the park was fast. They keep changing the route, and from the comment about the speed bumps in the start/finish straight it sounds like the start will be just down from the new car park. Either way, you are going to have to run up Cecily Hill which is a drag, and you won’t get all that time back on the return leg.

I would expect a few more fast boys than 2019, but think you should get a top 10.

Comparing to Fairford. Oh yeah its not fast. But I think it will be faster than Fairford! Do you know the route? As much of the route I think I know is as below. The rest, no idea.

It sounds like the are expecting a few more people than originally anticipated.

Last time I did it the start/finish was up at the polo pitches, you looped down to the to the Stroud Road entrance (twice) with the corresponding climb back up. Unless they are doing multiple laps then I would assume the same again this year.

I can legitimately post here. I actually did a multisport “race”.

Just an aquathlon. Hideous swim - need to practice that a bit more. But a run I’m quite pleased with. First time ever I overtook people on the run.

Not a comeback but feels good to have done it.

I was thinking about a little sprint tri in September, get me back into things. There is one just down the road from, in a lake I’ve swam in loads and know the area etc.

But its £71 entry fee.

I haven’t done any tri in about 5 years and not done a sprint since about 2013 but is that not a little excessive?

One of the well attendend local-ish ones is £65, not sure if they add some extra processing costs on top, seems a bit expensive to me, especially with this not being on a closed road and in a busy town centre which will compromise the bike in and out sections.
