Thanks all. Wheels fell off on the run. I was struggling to drink my maurten on the bike and belly just felt full but not emptying. Obviously not saying that’s what happened but that’s how it felt. Everytime I took a drink or something to eat I felt queasy. I think I ran out of calories and was thirsty as hell, still am.
Castle Howard Middle Distance Duathlon Euro champs qualifier (10km/90km10km) today. Nobody told me that the run is off-road! Anyways 2nd overall and 1st in my AG so not a bad day out
I was going to say I saw your name on the results but didn’t twig!
The section you mention was where I managed get into second as I think the others cramped on that spot too
Outlaw done yesterday. Haven’t really got an IM block in, so had to race conservatively.
Tough day with a strong wind and high humidity, but cautious pacing worked pretty well until mile 25 of the run at which point the lights went out completely.
However staggering the final mile in 13 minutes did not harm placing and ended with 10:47, 72nd overall and 2nd AG.
Ha, I was there too racing the Gauntlet. 2nd overall for me and 1st oldie.
That run was hard work. A friend of mine told me there were some off road sections but that I’d be ok in road shoes . Those sections in the far fields running in the tractor tracks were not what my 4% were made for.
Good event tho. @leahnp in hindsight I think I spotted you but didn’t twig at the time.
I saw you on the podium, good result aground yesterday. I operated on the basis that there was a bit of rough stuff but mostly tracks. I found road shoes were fine as I did a recce on Saturday in trail shoes but as the ground was solid it was worth the risk
It was number 3 in the series of 4 Chester Tri Aquathlons last night. My season’s motivation has definitely peaked at the Sausage Fest after which I’ve been irked by bruised ribs picked up from a kick during the swim & thereafter an ennui wrt training.
Anyway, my wife practically kicked me out the door & I enjoyed a solid tailwind as I cycled down the river path to Chester. When I got there all was good, it was great to see clubmates, friends, rivals & the competitive juices started flowing.
Everyone seemed to be a good minute slower on the swim & the wind added another 20 or so seconds to our run times. I was lucky enough to finish 1st V50 & 3rd over all which put me in the chocolate prize category .
The cycle home quickly brought my spirits down as the drizzly headwind dropped my speed down from 35km/h to 19km/h .
Do you go straight down the Dee from the bridge into town?
If so, I’ve always had a tailwind on there, but can only imagine how horrific a headwind must be!!!
Especially after racing
Great result
