Id just get a cab from Lisbon
I hired a van in 2019
How hard could it be?
(Very hard indeed)
Just over two weeks away.
That’s much better than “ tomorrow “
I did a marathon “ pb” on 3 days notice, FP entered one after a long run on hours notice but he is Australian ? !
Looking forward to the race report.
My best offering is a short ultra (only 30 miles) on 10 hours notice, my own fault for answering the phone at the pub I guess
I hesitated to vote at first in case we encourage you to pop something
But you have been one of the most consistent posters on the training thread & have been grinding it out all year from what I can see.
Race report awaited ![]()
Man, you’re making me jealous-I’d love to be going back to Cascais in a few weeks to have a final dose of summer.
I’d originally hired a car but that was pretty expensive (about £600 for 9 days). Then realised that you don’t really need a car once you’re in Cascais. Considered the train and from what I’d read it was doable. Then worked out I could get a private transfer from the airport directly to the hotel for €50 so I ended up doing that both ways. massively less hassle than the train especially as I arrived late at night.
I booked with SunTransfers
It’s a great venue for a race. The weather was amazing last year but the locals were saying that it’s not unusual for it to be a bit windy and rainy that time of year.
You’ll be grand! Look forward to the report, I have half an eye on this one for my first IM year after next as it falls within the school October week for us, but not sure my little chicken legs are ready for some of the hills. Interested in how it works with the half going the same day this year.
15hrs notice and I went 3.38. One of my best

Flat course and down sarf … it was probably tropical ….
Oulton park was -4444566 degrees five million meters of climbing and horizontal sleet that December… not a total blag… ish.
The last 3 laps were torture. I loved it.
They drive us around in golf carts down here, hot coffee on tap. ![]()
Considering you entered on mins notice I’d consider that weekend a draw!
No idea what next year will bring for me… a faster sprint I hope, but I might try and do something really silly!
go on…
I’ll it a poll up!
But not today
Tres jealous. Lisbon is my favourite European city!
BA are a good option as if you buy 1x 23kg of checked luggage a bike box is also included in that.
Bike box from the airport to Cascais is easy. Metro from the airport to the train station will require one change of line. Then coast train to Cascais. Pretty sure the whole journey will cost less than 10e.
Out of interest how much do most peoples bike boxes and bikes weigh? I’m guessing under 23kg, getting asked off klm ![]()
When I’ve rented a bike box Alan I think it was 20kg for the roadie and 22kg for the TT
Yeah usually about 20kg with some kit thrown in too, shoes, helmet etc.
Got one of the cheap DHB boxes from Wiggle so with bike it’s usually hitting 25-26kg, never charged any excess so it remains a bargain at £99 all those years ago
Soft bags and bike are around 14kg, my Thule bike case and TT bike comes in around 17/18kg
