2022 races

The hill wasn’t really steep enough to break things up that much and the descent was so fast and smooth I think a lot just regrouped!

The sea wall provided a bit of shelter from the wind though.

I did the 38th Horseshoe Pass Hill Climb yesterday which has 250mtrs of climb over 3.8km.

(saddle bag & bottle were taken off :grinning: )

I’m no tester - I last did this 10yrs ago - & again found myself among lots of skin-suited, perfectly shaven MAMILS in their regulation aero socks whilst I was wearing my 15yr old club top, warmingly hirsute legs & Christmas socks that my daughter gave me  .

Conditions were perfect, North Wales at it’s Autumnal finest  & with 2 former hill climb champions among the field of 100 the record went twice :astonished: .

My race went well I managed to hold about 5W/Kg for 11:20 to beat some mono-athletes, take 1st V50 & more importantly beat a mate by 21 seconds  .

It’s all good practice for the Nationals at the end of the month going up the nearby Old Shoe which although going up the same hill has a very different character. There’ll be no big ring action for that which I’m trying to think of as a positive for me & my lack of time-trialling.

It’s all good fun :upside_down_face: .

I did Horseshoe Pass as a timed section on Etape Cymru, I didn’t find it as bad as had been told. World’s End on the other hand!

As you say it’s really not that bad, I was hoofing along in the big ring for a few parts. World’s End is a good climb but has a long sapping road leading to it as you go up the valley but it’s a pussy cat compared to the Old Shoe.

WE was the last significant climb on the Etape, I can’t remember how long that ride was, 89 miles I think. I did get passed by Ian Bibby on a Brompton in the push for home!

Local (ish) 10k this morning. Lumpy and bumpy, 120m elevation.

220 runners, decent turnout.

41 minutes for me. Certainly would have taken that beforehand.

Now need to drop some timber ove r the winter and injury proof the body.

Just 3 weeks and my season is pretty much over, except an odd local trail or fell race. Now tapering down for the final 2 races, this week has been a bit hit & miss so it definitely started on Monday.

Although I’m looking forward to both races, particularly the 70.3 I’m a lot more relaxed about them than for UTMB for definite. I know I’ve done enough to get round but haven’t been able to focus enough on the IM to feel like I’ll be in my best shape and I’m not taking the P5, but the Propel + tribars isn’t bad. The CCC needed to much recovery and running has been a struggle since and with the weather changing I’ve not done the long rides outside on the bike. So, I’ve long since given up any dreams of sub 10!

But, if I stay clear of injury, illness, freak weather, mechanicals etc. I’m still hoping I can get between 10:30-11, it really does depend on the heat on the run and how my knee and glute hold up. I’ve also skimped on long swims so I’m relying on the flow of the river a bit, but still think I’d be 72-75 in calm water.

Just want to get there, enjoy the holiday and race now. hopefully I can recover enough to at least get to StG without having to walk it home. Fairly sure I’ll be alright on the swim & bike, then just see when the wheels fall off :joy:

I’ve only done 3 tri’s this year which isn’t many and the last one was late July so would have liked even a duathlon to get used to the multisport again.

Then it’s time to train for the enjoyment rather than some arbitrary goal for a while

Best of luck Jeff, you’ve had an amazing year so far. You definitely deserve a ‘shits and giggles’ race. :+1:

70.3 then a full in a week, or is it the other way round ?!

Which is probably worse, as silly as it sounds there no pressure with that race schedule, as no ducker would do really well either way !!

Sure you will enjoy and do keep us informed on progress

I need a race secretary for next year …

He’s obviously a nice fella, I won’t be asking him though!

Is there a Wetherspoons on the course down there?
Maybe someone to fix his cleats?

Well he’s posted a 1:07 swim time so he must be doing the full, or has indeed stopped off a spoons on the way to T1

@joex has been swimming ~2:00/100m recently, so that’s a fricking awesome swim time if he’s doing the full :exploding_head:
