First of all, thanks guys I didn’t really want to be tracked because I knew it wasn’t going to be great but it’s only fair to be open as ai track everyone  - it was kinda under the radar but I did confess to the last minute entry.

Long story short is, I’ve had it with my bike and I’m not Iron fit.

I rolled out of bed put my shit on wandered into the melee at the beach and realised I was lining up with the 70.3 crowd so I ended up at the front of the IM swim. Demoralising, and felt like I was taking it too easy but 1ho7 is my second best IM swim after CH.

Looks like you guys realised something was wrong way before I did!

3h37 into the bike halfway up the Sintra Hills for the second time I lost my patience and stopped at FBR with a basically “My bikes too slow!” Complaint . Lo and behold the rear left brake was rubbing, he didn’t get a half turn out of the wheel. It was working last night so I dont know what happened, you get quite a few hard knocks on the bike course from road “features” on an otherwise smooth course.

So that fucked my bike split. I’ll never know what difference it made, but I was about 30mins behind the BBS plan at 90km. So if I’m generous maybe a sub 6 bike could’ve been on. And a few more km before my run collapsed.

Half way round the bike I was already like “I cant fucking run off this” I spent a lot of the second half thinking about the shame of a DNF. But that weird thing happened where despite your bike legs being fucked running felt all right.

I didn’t have a plan like last year, or rather I wanted to see what I had. I was a bit surprised when I checked my pace early, but I never checked again. It was simply “shuffle between aid stations, walk for one minute, repeat”. I felt good until 15km after the bastard hill out of the bay, then at 19km my legs just said “you’ve had your lot”.

I am the worst at race day maths, and I was totally surprised at my result. Imagine if I could run?

Thank again everyone, cheered me up reading that. #hugs #bros #etc

Edit: my watch died with 5km to go. Bleeped and said Open Water Swim and loads of zeroes. So I think I’ve lost all the data, except bike which I used my Garmin Edge backup for.

Annoying about the brake rubbing, would have impacted the run from the extra time on the bike and probably pushing more watts

I’d be devo’d to find my brake had been rubbing thike that, well done on grinding it out to the finish @joex.
