2023 Goals

Ch’triman is a great event and we’ll organized - you’ll enjoy it

ETA: when travelling to France we often stay at the rowing lake where Ch’triman is held there is a car park which allows campers to stay overnight FOC and is easy access from Calais. Also good for walking the dog around the lake.

Well, I did do some turbos so that’s one tick
I am building my mileage back up slowly, my breathing feels much less stressed after medical intervention (as discussed on other threads), if that continues then I think goal 2 is on.

I’m doing my first bit of bikepacking since 2019 this weekend. Not too far Chester-Manchester and then Manchester to Sheffield. If that goes well enough, I’m thinking of late July to go round Wales.
I finish my work contract on Friday so mileage should increase significantly and I’ll have a proper feel on how both body and breathing are holding up by mid June I think.

As for swimming, not on the horizon yet.

because the earth curves, you never actually get the the horizon

Yes, I’m right on track :+1:

Oh

Depends on from whose point of view, no?

You could be on the horizon if swimming away from someone who thought it funny to yell “shark” while out for a swim together?

This is true. I remember when the turnaround buoy de-tatched at LCW, that horizon never bloody came any closer. :man_facepalming:

You need to read a bit of Einstein - it’s all relative to the observer

Fair, you could get to some horizons. Like the event horizon of a black hole maybe. But only from the outside, there’d be no swimming back.

I can almost hear Brian Cox talking about the heat death of the universe

Brian Cox should do google map voice overs. Everyone would drive calmer.

…So I need new goals at least until the cat dies.

I was 7hrs Jan and feb but now down to 6hrs20-6hrs40 avg per month

And I think it’s time to accept my body shape for what it is: Too heavy to win anything, but healthy enough to finish anything.

Post Frankfurt I’m a bit rudderless so want to plan some kind of goal, I haven’t focussed on cycling for years, I believe my run is improving but I suspect swim is the only thing I can improve significantly.

Pretty much done for the year, finished as disappointingly as it generally started, was supposed to be doing a trail half today but had to skip that because of the hamstring, lost quite a few ££ on races because of it this year.

Managed the sub 5 at Copenhagen and that was my only 70.3, it should have set me up for a decent second half of the season but sadly not. After that it was just a question of trying to be able to finish Nice & Berlin, preferably without being crippled afterwards.

Was still pleased to get round both of those races even if the run at Nice was utterly horrific :joy:

I did manage a sub 90 HM and a 19:29 parkrun without any significant training so can hopefully pick things up if the leg does improve.

Had about 3 viruses between Christmas and May which didn’t help matters.

But I did manage to get in quite a bit of travelling and several capitals off the list  (sorry Greta)

Copenhagen
Helsinki
Sarajevo
Belgrade
San Marino

Hopefully start afresh in January and I’ve no plans to do an Ironman next year, and not sure I’ll do a marathon either unless I’m running well and injury free later in the year.

Onwards and upwards.

Ermm… swim goals … nope

Within shouting distance though of bronze perhaps. 11m39 sea swim in a sprint tri which included an Aussie beach exit and the run up the beach to T1.

Also back in the Spring think I dipped under 23 for 1500m, although haven’t been able to repeat it and partly wonder if maybe miscounted and swam 1450m.

Carried forwards…

Am I too late :joy:

Failed. Miserably :roll_eyes::face_with_peeking_eye:

I did complete a triathlon though :white_check_mark::+1:t3::joy:
And managed 13 x 100km rides and 16 parkruns.

Various excuses, but breaks down as CBA :scream::person_shrugging:t3:

Swim: 23km 8hrs
Bike: 5,631km 205hrs
Run: 352km 29hrs

Shameful :pensive:
~40mins per day, but masses of inactivity.

On the “plus” side, I did increase my body mass by ~22% :exploding_head::scream:

Well here we are.

2023
Swimming 87km, 25 hours
Cycling 2,097 km, 65 hours (most on the Peloton)
Running 1,065 km, 80 hours
Rowing / Gym c. 300km, no idea on S&C but roughly twice a week

Fairly consistent and pleased with my performance in the Geee Beee AG stuff. Didn’t trouble the front but think I did the best I could.

Also ran a sub-40 10km and sub-19 5km.

Couldn’t ask for much more with work and family commitments.
