2023 races

Had an email about Manchester marathon so signed up for next year. £55 is pretty reasonable.

The A56 hurts my soul so I can never bring myself to enter :sob:

Dirty Reiver looked proper shit this year. @Poet are you glad you skipped it? Some criticism of the organization too. I was considering it for next year but think I’ll give it a miss.

Yup!!!
Five hours of rain, followed by 4° temperatures.
Nah mate.
After being kept for up to an hour at the start to be let go. :rage:

I enjoyed my solo 7:15 140km ride :white_check_mark:
Did a massive dead end hill that I’ve been eyeing up for ages - as the bit over the top is just bricks and grass etc until you get back into civilisation.
Only problem was that hill was so monumental it made the profile graph look like the rest of the ride was flat.
It wasn’t :sob::sob::sob:

Absolutely dead after 5 hours. So took a “shortcut” home (cutting off 20km) and then tried to keep off road, which was up. And down. And then up again :joy:

I fricking hate hills :rage::face_vomiting:
(Fully aware this is an oxymoron to what I’ve just said :joy::face_with_peeking_eye:)

Saw that there are some DR clips up on YT but haven’t watched them yet.

Yeah DR looked pretty miserable TBH

I hope the Gralloch take some notes as that has huge potential for being a shit show I think. God help us! :sob:

Maybe I’m getting old and miserable but this is what’s concerning me about the Gralloch. Will it be too big, chaotic, and just a hassle all round? I may just find a lower key race TBH. I’m always suspect about the first iteration of big events.

I don’t Strava much currently. Without getting all waa waa I found it was providing the wrong sort of extrinsic motivation for training. Like I’d do a 90 min ride with some hills and think “well so and so did 150k yesterday so what am I doing?”. So I made my rides private. But I still occasionally see what others do like a proper hypocrite.

The quip: “if it’s not on Strava it didn’t happen” (Anon), really annoyed me as I recognised it in my own behaviour.

Alternatively I may have had one too many Erdingers after 1.10 in the sauna today :rofl:

Agree with that GM. I would look at what others were doing and think I had to match or better them so I only look at my stuff now and how shite I am compared to my lockdown times!

I don’t really get strava TBH, although when I open it I like seeing what others are up to. If someone has done a good run or ride I like seeing them doing well.

Personally I feel no pressure from what others are doing on there at all. I just genuinely like to see what others are doing. A while back I had a big clear out though. Removed all pros and top amateurs, people I didn’t know (or care about). So now I have a much better list.

Luckily I’m nowhere near either category :joy:

Although I do have a purge now and then of people that have vanished.

Seem to pick up a few if I ever use the shake for kudos feature!

Managed to get some Bulgarian guy from the race on Sunday as we ran together for a while before he did the second lap for the marathon. He did 3:12 for M60! And he’s already training again running around some track :flushed:

I more meant people I have no sort of connection with! :joy:
