Daily distance depends very much on the terrain. Riding 350km a day is pretty easy on rolling hills and flat, my 340k bike ride last year wasn’t hard, despite almost 4,500m climbing as none of the climbs were big.
I think, early on, it may try to do 400k. At the end of day 2 it may be possible to reach Andermatt (800km). Day 3 is going to be stunning and horrendous - starts with Gottard, and descending on the cobbles I think that day 3 to 6/7 will be hard 200-250k days. I am not keen on doing mountain descents in the dark. Next 3 days will be 300k days (maybe more as it looks really flat). The final 4-5 days will be 200-250k per day - estimated eta 13-15 days
Yeah absolutely, there will be some big ascent days. Trying to bank some extra distance early but not blow yourself out. Again Hayden and Josh Reid said they took that approach and paid for it later on, I know I am nowhere near their abilities!
Gottard I saw that pass when I was route planning. I didn’t quite twig it was cobbles the whole way down! Good job we are both on gravel bikes with 37+ sized tyres. Route planning for CP2-3 looks like an absolute head ache with the amount of options.
@Poet Maybe save us spamming this thread and pop this in a TCR thread?
They then go and win national events, win there age group in decent races and do 10 hour iron mans.
I have a lifelong friend who does exactly the same, he’s Kona q”d multiple times, done a 2:04 Olympic and multiple 3 hour marathons, to hear him talk he should qualify for the highest form of PIP, needs a a stenna stairlift and is “ not moving well at the moment “
Belgrade half today, finished in 1:34:18, million excuses but the best I was expecting was about 91. Last 3K felt savage as there was a couple of digs and I was already suffering
But nice to run in a bit of heat as it was probably about 18C
Bit of a shame as 8 weeks ago I thought I’d turned the corner and was in 1:27 shape after the 20 mile trail race and 19:29 parkrun but hey ho. Probably try and get some more longer runs in when I get back as this was the longest for weeks.
Also found out my sister has got the dreaded C lurgy and she gave me a lift on Friday although I still think that’s what I had recently.
I’m definitely in for next weeks Thames Turbo Sprint tri - should be a good blast - rode the bike course today and yesterday. There are some atrocious potholes!
