Where are we with this? Few people waiting on exam timetables I think, when is that?
Alas its a no for me;
Couldn’t be a worse subject on the following Monday. Tensions at home will be high that weekend
I’ve got the week after booked in and was going to enter last week, alas incompetence means it’s still on my to do list
Hopefully get entered this weekend. Might even motivate me to do some actual training
Good luck to any racers!
Think @buzz is racing at least?
Today?
Looks like a 34:11 swim for @buzz and onto the bike just over an hour ago, have a good one!
Yeah, it’s today!!!
Good luck buzz wish I could’ve been there
Cancelled for family reasons of course those reasons evaporated too late
Nice work @buzz
34/2:30/1:36 - 4:45
Well done @buzz !
Strong race, buzz
Very nicely done @buzz
Thanks guys. Not my best day, but I managed it well in the end.
Not sure why I put myself through this. However much I tell myself it’s just for fun, I always get really nervous. Nervous something will go wrong mostly - I will oversleep, forget my wetsuit, get a puncture, blow up on the run. Well I can say I managed to avoid all those, so
First the excuses. I’m training for LCW, so have barely been out on my TT bike, have been avoiding flat routes and done the sum total of 1 brick (last Monday). Two weeks ago I did my biggest training week possibly ever, and on Thursday night I woke up with cramp in both calves. At least that reminded me to dig my calf guards out for the day.
So, one very restless nights sleep I’m up before the alarm and decide to pedal the 3 miles down to transition. Wetsuit duly remembered and donned, off on the mass start. It all feels a bit harder than it should, keep getting knocked off the feet I’m trying to follow, and take a bash to the head at one point that requires resetting the goggles. Still, out in sub-35, which is pretty standard for me.
Decide to go with socks for the bike. It’s still fresh and an easterly wind and it will be nice to feel my feet. Up to speed OK, but first sip of gel doesn’t go down well. Drink is OK, but some of the energy is coming back up again, not sure how much I’m keeping down. If this continues the run will be a run in name only. Decide to back off, don’t follow any of the wheels of the people flying passed me, just keep things steady and try to keep as much down as possible.
The easterly has the advantage that most of the 2nd half of the lap is with a tale wind, so just make it to the turnaround and the pace picks up on the way back. Made it back to T2 in just over 2h30, but what happens next?
It’s hot now, and I’m as much concerned about water as energy. I’ve staggered through lap 3 on both my previous trips around this run, so determine to hold back as much as possible and walk through the aid stations to get water to wash down the gels. Pace on lap 2 starts to dip, a prelude to the bigger crash to come? But as I start lap 3 confidence builds that I will be able to run, and maybe even pick up the pace. Still taking it easy through the trees and through the aid stations, but on the road sections I actually pick up the pace. Not enough to challenge 5th in AG who strode passed with a mile or so to go, but a strong finish for once.
Overall 4:45. My slowest 113/Cotswolds, but a fair reflection of my current fitness. LCW in 4 weeks, just hope I can manage that without 3 sleepless nights.
Good man. Nicely paced to finish strongly.
Bodes well for LCW.
Great stuff
Nice work.
Is it ever cold for this race???
There was the year when the bike was ridden in a torrential downpour. Thankfully I wasn’t doing that one.
Top stuff buddy.
Was there any water in the lake this year?!
No walking on water this year, some shallows but lake is in pretty good shape at the moment.
It’s weird how we do this to ourselves despite all the training, but can turn up and smash a parkrun during a big training block or destroy fruity on a Thursday
