2023 Weigh-in Thread

From the 2022 thread:

67kg this morning, though that is up from 64kg in May before Cape Wrath. When I hit 63kg after Cape Wrath, even though I wasn’t doing much exercise, I made an effort to eat a little more as that was unsustainable. I’ll try to keep it around 66-68kg.

Height = 5’ 7” / 1.7m

01/01/23 - 13st 0.6lbs / 82.8 Kg – BF 27.8%

Double whammy of going back over 13 stone and 80 kg. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

December Month = Gain of 7.4 lbs / 3.4kg

Although, in fairness, this is a fair reflection of the combination of work stress, fighting a bug of some sort, not exercising enough and eating and drinking too much.

The only good news is I know January will be better and I’ve been on this ‘rollercoaster’ since my personal worst on 01/01/19 – 14st 8.6lbs / 92.8kg – BF 34.2%

I’d suggest a group hug, but we might break the racing snakes.

Cheers, Paul.

6ft 5, 98kg, bmi 26, fat 14.9kg, muscle 79.5, bone 3.6. water 52.7kg
wonder how accurate most of that is :joy:

86kg, 18% body fat (Dexa) - too much useless weight to be lugging around. Need to drop 6kg fat pretty quick smart.

90kg dead on this morning. It sure gets harder as you get older. :man_facepalming:

No specific target, want to be a better runner and that means there needs to be less of me. Definitely need to be closer to 80kg for IM Wales.

82! Work to do

Well, as that lot adds up to 150kg, not 98, I’m going to go with ‘not very accurate’.

But the water is already accounted for in the fat and muscle isnt it? The fat + muscle + bone adds up to 98.

Still no idea if any of that is accurate.

Are there any cheap ways to get accurate body composition numbers?

The Americans always talk about private medical paying for Dexa scans, so that sounds expensive

D’Oh!

OK, as others have already said, I just use the fat % on the scales as a guide.

My crappy scales have me at

73kgs
24.3 bmi
9.2% bf

I’ll take that, as I think I topped 75 for the first time ever this time last year. Especially as I barely did any exercise last December for various reasons. Didn’t go crazy on food, but wasn’t exactly holding back. Didn’t drink much either.

Goal will be to hover between 71-73 for the next few months, then try to nudge it down to 70 for Wales in Sept. I’m not going to go crazy on calorie restriction or anything whilst training for an IM. But I’ll have a think about cutting out the crap for a month or two. Stuff like crisps and biscuits. Minimal alcohol. But we’ll see. I can race fine at 72, so no big deal.

no apart from underwater/air displacement weighing which is good but not as good as DEXA and equally unavailable at the local gym

but as a guide as long as you get up first thing and before you drink or eat anything weight yourself, then you can track a trend. most are influenced by hydration and immediate activity levels so keeping that similar is key

My scales use the electrical impedance which can vary depending on a number of factors.

I also use these:

They wont give an accurate measurement, but after a few goes at using them they do give a consistent reading so are ok for tracking fat loss

There are a few places dotted around that do something similar, I know of one in Yeovil, there must be a few in the smoke. About £100 a go I think.

I have the Garmin scales, probably not that accurate, but seem to be consistent.
