It’s possibly the best of the series that one.
Usual season opener. Sold out local 5 mile race, attracted 1,200 runners (female record held by a certain Beth Potter).
Anyway, 8.2km. 32:24. 15m elevation.
It must have been almost bedtime for you
In the after math of this I was very surprised to get an email telling me that I had a World Championship spot! I think much like Kona there are a number of different spots depending on the size of AG at each race etc. I hadn’t managed to find the number available online until just now and had thought it was 6 so presumed there was heavy roll down. Which actually they only roll down to one athlete. Then those spots are forfeited. Is Ironman the same? The number available at Manchester was actually 9 so coming 11th I am much less surprised I have got in. I’m sure a few have already qualified earlier in the season.
Much like Kona, the entry price is double a standard ticket I now need to really consider starting some dedicated specific training as I have to use Pro weights at the world champs! Genuinely I’ve probably only used a sled less than 10 times
Maybe a coach might even be in order!
Anyway, off to Nice in June. Buzzing!
Congratulations, bet you will be the only TCR competitor capable of pulling a sled
Well deserved in an age group that size !?
Fantastic effort
If nothing else I’m honest …several people commented that I “ could possibly “ get a similar mail.
But with less places in a much smaller age group it wasn’t to be.
Pro weights!
Dear god … some training there for you lad.
The 9 kilo wall balls would see me there all day !
Fantastic effort getting this.
Check the other thread.
You could recce the Ironman WC course while you’re there
Got two very fast runners (34 min 10 k ! ) Working on the sled at the min started on a lower weight and moving up nicely.
Anyone can push a sled it’s hardly Olympic lifting or 400 m butterfly it’s just practice, fitness and a small amount of technique.
Just found out there’s going to be a Ramadan club tri league here.
7 races over the month of March. Mix of sprint tris, du, aquathlons, off road run, TT.
The 3 main clubs here - Doha Tri Club, Qatar Tri Club, and The Irish Tri Club (IDK
) mano y mano y mano.
Sounds great, only thing is, need to sign up to all 7 races & I need to find a way to square that with work. But if I can, think will definitely do it
ETA it seems likely a few of the guys from QTri will be fasting too…
At least no nutrition choices need making.
Oh I don’t know, I’m sure there’s some marketing traction in putting out a gel packet with nothing in it. It will give you the mental boost to think you’re doing getting some nutrition in, I’m sure AG1 are on it.
What’s the stance on carbon mouth rinsing?
Pretty niche, although I can imagine all the rage for the triathlete who has tried everything.
Carbohydrate mouth rinsing does have some credibility I believe. On the basis that the body shuts done well before stores are truly depleted as a defence mechanism, mouth rinsing fools the body into thinking carbs are on the way and allows access to the remaining stores. Raises a couple of questions in my mind…
- Why not just ingest the carbs? Body has shut down for a reason, fooling it into thinking you are going to replenish and then not doesn’t sound healthy.
- For @fruit_thief 's Ramadan races, does mouth wash count as breaking the fast?
I for one will be neither fasting nor fast
My point exactly. Is this a clever way to cheat the system?!
I’m now considering selling my UT Snowdonia entry, think I’ve got a few weeks to do it, seems strange they let people sell them on but it looks fine. Looked at last years results and only ~40 people broke 8 hours, and I think first M50 was nearly 9, doubt I’ll be in decent shape at that point and it will be a long miserable day at the current rate.
I was hoping to use it as a ballot entry for OCC next year but I’m cooling towards that now, got other plans for next year and not very keen on the way IM are taking the races forward, it’s also very busy and expensive. I think I’d rather just go on my own at some point and possibly do some trail running or enjoy the scenery.
I’d put the money towards something else. Still nervous about entering expensive races until I see how the leg goes in the next few weeks. I looked at Swansea 70.3 again, £355!! plus the Active fee will be nearly £400
I’m guessing Challenge London is now the T100 race, but getting to the start looks crap. But the good news is that with the likes of Ripon tri and a few other UK races I have some local options.
Looking at a few TT’s in the early part of the season as well.
Bolton has places !
Easy bike apparently?
What distance are you selling? I’m looking to shift my 100k but it doesn’t seem a popular one. 50’s are getting snapped up on the Facebook page.
