It’s a 50 so hopefully an easier sell
I considered the 50km but dilly-dallied too long.
That gave me time to watch lots of YouTube videos.
There were sooooo many people taking part the idea was no longer remotely attractive.
That’s the one for me too. Looks like some great routes. Tough and beautiful. But just too many perps.
I think both of you are going to be well in front of the hordes. I’d expect you to be at least top 50.
Probably just about getting to the front early.
UTMB was really busy but it did stop me doing a suicidal first 10k
Mrs T and I also trying to do OCC next year - for her it will be her big chance at a finish into Chamonix - she’s been a spectator there for 9 years and really wants to have a crack at it
Exactly my thoughts Jeff. Planning on a family holiday without the Poletti money grabbing circus.
I can understand that and finishing in front of big crowd on the carpet is a great feeling, in some ways a daytime finish would be nice compared to my 4am finish where there was a handful of finishers and their families.
But it’s something I’ve had in triathlons and will continue with them, maybe one day.
I get the Poletti/IM thing
Mrs T has had the finish line thing at NY mara or Berlin mara but IMHO neither anything like Chamonix (maybe not at 4am I will give you that) running into the town with the crowd support and cheering that each runner gets is pretty special
This year we are going to do the ETC together - we ain’t going to win any trophies but I am really looking forward to doing it together
Another sprint Tri this morning.
Beautiful morning, the sea a cool 17°C, fine for racing but you probably wouldn’t want to float about in it. About 80% of people wore wetsuits, but 100% of people who don’t have a wetsuit just wore trisuits. Didn’t see any sharks, although that doesn’t mean there weren’t any there.
Got my P2 here now & needed it because there was a stiff headwind on the 3 lap straight out and straight back dual-carriageway type bike course. There was a big difference today between those on TT bikes and those on road bikes. Seem to have really lost a lot of power since getting old & lazy & unplugging Zwift, averaged just 222W / 230W NP today whereas 18 months ago at Langport averaged 270W. The roads were flat and kind though, so this hamster-like power was good for 38kmh. The eventual winner averaged 42kmh , despite the headwind.
Run, felt grim today, 5.6km and unusually the organisers managed to conjure up some hills. Dragged the crumbling bones around in 22 minutes but they weren’t happy.
Anyway, it’s another old man AG win in the bag & think was also 6th overall today, about 7 minutes behind the winner. And the really fast 16 year old who keeps walloping me in club sessions, well, it turns out he’s only 15 and so was too young to compete today
edit: here’s a still of the museum piece in action (I’m talking about the P2). Wife came along today and took some pics, which was nice.
Well done fruity definitely be able to buy a full pair of Alphafly’s with all these winnings
And Survived another swim without any shark encounters
(probably too cold for them)
Great effort fruity !
Great effort well done with that result
Fantastic, well done mate
how much for the win today?
worryingly no envelopes were exchanged today
the last 2 times the envelopes turned out to be purely symbolic though, the prize was delivered via email/ bank transfer. So , maybe nothing, but waiting to see. It’s all very mysterious
I think your in a strong enough position to hold out for appearance money from hereon in..
When are you buying a new tt bike?
People say I”m “ tight”
You make me feel better about myself.
haha
I dunno, would quite like one but now is not the right time. Maybe when we come back to UK. Don’t want to accumulate stuff out here, anything we have we are ultimately going to need to sell, give away or bring back as luggage on the plane.
We already seem somehow to have acquired 3 bikes and 4 helmets here between us
38 kph on the antique is going well
( the bike not you).
Your power output 222 W was identical to a max kms effort I made early this week ( 46 mins ish) no way I’d be running at 15 kph + after that though.
Great work
That’s the thing, even though the P2 is ancient it seems to work ok. Not sure that a new bike would necessarily be loads better, although it might be nicer & have cooler stuff like disc brakes, tubeless and electronic shifting and not be 10 speed.
edit: ok, it would be better. Did I mention a rear disc wheel, professional fit, integrated storage and a clean front end?
edit #2: who am I kidding, I want one.
