Sub-9 at Nice would be special
Well done @Mr-me , look forward to the big write up.
I am a well rounded person after lack of exercise this year! Did you ask your friends what the water temp was last year? Do we have to take a tow float? I think I’ll just stick a couple of gels up my sleeve I wonder if they’ll have any feed stations on the swim?
I swam Dart 10k a few years back and when I got out of the water my face was really swollen, have you had that before?
Plenty of body glide on the neck, I’ve had a lot of neck rub in the past and although it’s fine while swimming, it’s a stinger in the shower!
I swam Coniston a few years back and I’m not sure what the temp was, but I got really cold, I really slowed down and I couldn’t increase HR. I’ve put on a few pounds since then so that will help. I’ll probably do some more cold water acclimatisation.
Thanks @APM, it’d be great if you decided to enter as well
Not asked any questions of my friend yet, but I’ve been stalking Strava activities & found a podcast with a little bit of the race.
It sounds like the sea water temp is at it’s warmest when we start & as we swim up The Dyfi the cooler the fresh water becomes. The first two out of the water last year mentioned transition as being difficult so I’m pretty sure hands will become claw like
Strava of last year's winner
Looking at pictures tow floats are required. From the course map there seems to be a feed station at 10km when we swim under a railway bridge, but I’ll probably just want the swim to be over by then.

Swollen face doesn’t sound like anything to look forward to.
Ah great intel, thanks! I might stash some buffs at T1 to help with warming up. I wonder how visible the swim exit is; I suspect one of my issues will be that I zone out and end up another 13km from the exit!
@tunster looks like a tidal wave!
Now remember kids. What’s the next best thing you can do to prepare for a race if you haven’t managed to get the training in?
That’s right. Buy more stuff!!!
New aero bottle (to replace a runner that made a bid for freedom somewhere on the IMW course last year)
Plus a nice order from XMiles - gels, electrolyes and drink powders.
Also i wrote a nice nutrition plan.
Just need to actually do some exercise now!
When is the race?
Tomorrow ?!?
A week Sunday!
You probably want to taper.
Excellent plan!
Tailwind, proven to make you faster!

I would 100% agree with that.
Remember, you don’t actually have to swim the distance, just make it from one safety kayak to the next.
Mrs FP is on the Whatsapp ‘Ironman Ali’ support group for our friend that did Copenhagen. Today she says to me ‘do you know this guy? he’s sent a video congrats to Ali’
Well, I know of him. Turns out it was Tom Dean, yes that one.
Tallinn have just announced they are moving from Lake to Sea Swim due to algae. Kudos to them for making a solution happen rather than just cancelling it.
They’ve done this before haven’t they, but the other way round? Moving the swim basically on the day of the race a few years back from sea to lake due to temperature.
Yeah, my friend did it that year and I think they stuck with it.
Saw my IM Copenhagen friend this morning on my run. She was on her way to parkrun. We chatted for a minute and I congratulated her. She had her finisher’s shirt on, no harm no foul but then I saw she was still wearing her wristband.
We can no longer be friends.
