Nailbiting this!

8 mins left 1.6k… going to be tight
Watchin the pro’s the tracker distance was slighly wrong, which is why it looked like KB was on for a sub 2:30

amazing @Mr-me

somewhat daunting that 8:57 “only” gets 5th in AG. Must have been a class field

I am doing Cascais on 19 October, following you today has been a real inspiration.

Thanks all for following along today much appreciated. Had great fun reading it back while was gathering myself and eating low quality pizza in the recovery area.
Needles to say this was my day of days. A friend of mine who had previously gone sub 8 commented that I’d need everything to go perfectly and that’s what I got.
Sub 9 required me to have my fastest ever swim fastest ever bike and fastest ever run which feels good to tick off at age 47.
All it took was 12 years of training and 16 Ironmans to nail it.:rofl:
I’ll do a longer write up at some point it wanted to post something before I fell unconscious.
Oh and @Matthew_Spooner i’d entered Barcelona as a back up for a sub 9 attempt if today didn’t go my way and to try to qualify for Nice next year (Copenhagen was a Kona qualifier and no way am I tempted to go back there). Quite fancy rounding out my Ironman career in Nice… anyway now the sub 9 is done I’m giving serious thought to transferring to Cascais so might see you there.
And as a final point the depth of field today was insane. Last year my 9.01 got me 4th in my ag and 39th overall. This year 8.57 got me 5th in ag and 75th overall - mental

@Mr-me, you had an Amazing day, well done, it was fun following you. I would love to see you in Cascais. My plan is qualify for Nice and retire from Ironman.

I am carrying a load of fitness from TCR, so it has to be this year. Emilia Romana or Barcelona could have been sub 9 courses, however I think that Cascais would suit me much better

I would love to go sub 9, but really can’t see it happening. So Nice retirement is my plan A.

I am a well rounded person after lack of exercise this year! Did you ask your friends what the water temp was last year? Do we have to take a tow float? I think I’ll just stick a couple of gels up my sleeve :magic_wand: I wonder if they’ll have any feed stations on the swim?

I swam Dart 10k a few years back and when I got out of the water my face was really swollen, have you had that before?

Plenty of body glide on the neck, I’ve had a lot of neck rub in the past and although it’s fine while swimming, it’s a stinger in the shower!

I swam Coniston a few years back and I’m not sure what the temp was, but I got really cold, I really slowed down and I couldn’t increase HR. I’ve put on a few pounds since then so that will help. I’ll probably do some more cold water acclimatisation.

Thanks @APM, it’d be great if you decided to enter as well :muscle:

Not asked any questions of my friend yet, but I’ve been stalking Strava activities & found a podcast with a little bit of the race.

It sounds like the sea water temp is at it’s warmest when we start & as we swim up The Dyfi the cooler the fresh water becomes. The first two out of the water last year mentioned transition as being difficult :grimacing: so I’m pretty sure hands will become claw like :face_holding_back_tears:

Looking at pictures tow floats are required. From the course map there seems to be a feed station at 10km when we swim under a railway bridge, but I’ll probably just want the swim to be over by then.

Swollen face doesn’t sound like anything to look forward to.
