Soggy Bournemouth Tri yesterday. My parents have moved down there and are a mile and a half away from the start…perfect
Swim - beach start and run into the water. Found some feet and chilled, probably annoyed the hell out of the fella in front, but hey, that’s racing. 3rd out of the water, 20mins exactly
Zig Zags/T1 - quite like the fact they give you a separate time for the zi-zags on the results - 2 minutes of blowing out me arse running up from the beach
Bike - super quick, out of town on the A338 dual carriageway, smooth tarmac very few corners, 95% of cars stuck to the outside lane. Shame it was pissing with rain 23.8mph average
Run - downhill to the pier then along the front, turnaround and back again. Ticking off 7 min miles nicely until 4.5 miles when calf went pop, ouch, hobbled back but still did 45 minutes…only lost 2.5 minutes or so with the hobbling
Finish on the beach. Good event. I last did it in 2008ish(?) when transition was over by the pier and run in the opposite direction.
2 ChallengingEvents races in the last 2 weeks, good little outfit
Tunnel is more expensive
Report for Beat The Tide 4km in the Dyfi X Aquathlon thread.
Forking heck!!!
That’s nuts
But takes about 1/3 of the time.
Aye - and don’t have to get out of the vehicle. Despite the extra cost it’s the easiest way to cross the Channel with a dog on board.
Will be on it Wednesday morning
The tunnel was a lot cheaper when I came back from France in July? Even with the extra driving.
Before Covid, Le Shuttle (as they trade as these days) used to offer a frequent traveller scheme - buy minimum 10 crossings (5 x returns) valid for 1 year at a much reduced cost. These crossings could be shared with one other person so reduced the costs further if plans were not to cross 5x.
The last time me and a friend bought this, it was £48 per crossing - £96 return!! Extra costs if at certain crossing times.
Sadly frequent traveller scheme died as a result of covid and not been brought back yet.
Current return crossing is £357!! But that’s for a 6m campervan plus dog which is an expensive(ish) extra
Was going to say, it was around £240 return for our car at the end of July
I think the price of the Chunnel will be insignificant if they manage to bring back your friend
He can stay over there….
That price is if you’re organised and book well in advance. Book within a few months of travel and you’re looking at 4 times that amount. That Newcastle Amsterdam crossing can be eye wateringly expensive.
Good luck
don’t forget to take a bike.
Good luck … Weymouth??
Says Erkner (Berlin) on the swim cap.
Edit: all them gels for a 70.3
A bike???
Erkner just outside of Berlin
I’m at Weymouth…
No kids or responsibilities, sun shining and transition doesn’t close until 5. Think I’m going off for a little pootle on the bike
They gave out a sachet of PH 1500 and Maurten 320 mix in the backpacks. Had I known that I could have saved myself a few quid on nutrition!
