2025 best forgotten in my case
The one that’s a five minute walk from my house?
£60, £3 fee, £8 day license = £71 (which is now about the price of one candle)
A candle burns for 60hrs. The sprint tri is slightly long, so takes 71 minutes. Which is one pound per minute. It just doesn’t represent value (to me). Whereas I get over two months of enjoyment from a candle, as it’ll be on for an hour in the evening and not every night.
To be fair, the Matlock Sprint Tri on August Bank Holiday is only £15. And it’s a great course, for a local cause, with great fish and chips nearby afterwards. An ex-TTer, after years of trying, finally won the fruit basket hamper prize a few years back ![]()
Also, Bala used to be great value for money. So I’m hoping that’s the same again …
I think it’s time to look back k at these.
Fitness / sport stuff
Ride a 200k and 300k audax. ![]()
Will see how they go and if I’ve sorted out my nutrition woes, then I’ll enter a 400k.
But I do think I’ve sorted out my stomach issues, so can potentially do this in 2026.
Ride over 5000 road miles for the year, commuting and training.
Just about made it over 5000kms, my lowest mileage in a long while
Get to 50 parkruns
On 49! Illness and injury prevented me from hitting 50, but it’s a nice piece of low hanging fruit for January!.
Will ParkRun volunteer and aim to do at least 5 events.
12 volunteer credits and really enjoyed it
Work stuff
I’ve been doing the same job for a very long time and basically happy in what I’m doing. Planning on doing some project work on using AI in the classroom. Other than that, an arbitrary goal of not getting so stressed about work and letting it spoil my time at home. Not actually sure what that looks like, but I’ll try to figure out something practical to improve this.
Sort of. Doing quite a bit of stuff with Copilot but only on a fairly basic level. In trying no to be getting so stressed, I’ve basically been saying no to stuff, rather than being a people pleaser and taking too much on, so need to do more of this
Other interests
I’ve entered a motorcycle landmark challenge event, to get me out and about on my Honda. Aiming to complete all the English and Welsh landmarks over the summer. Continue to tinker with the bike and enjoy a bit of spannering.
just didn’t really get into it and found I preferred pottering somewhere for a coffee rathan spending hours on the motorbike
Get back into my passion for all things aviation. The cheap option to join a local radio controlled model flying club and maybe over the summer look at joining a gliding club, which I did at university and loved.
Passed my basic license for model aircraft. Really enjoyed the hobby and meeting some new folks and talking ar$e about all things aircraft
Other other stuff
Try not to be so grumpy. I really feel at times I’m turning into a grumpy old bloke. Need to try to see the fun and joy in the day-to-day stuff, rather than letting it get to me
Like I said above, saying no more often has been good but still work to do here
