Not get sacked / Get through the year with minimal fuss.
Every year is mostly this. I enjoy my job but no need or desire to do anything more
Physical Goals
Get back my lost fitness - life has been horrific and this has meant, even with my post IM break, my well renowned diesel engine is in pieces
Finish the 10 hrs / 10 lap race in March - aiming for the 4 mile loops
Possibly do the London Hyrox at the end of the year - entry dependent
Life / Hobby goals
Finish my Bucky/Winter Soldier cosplay - various factors have meant this has been dragging on. Am getting ready to make a pair of leather tactical boots, so that’s a new skill set. Then it’s molding and casting a rubber arm and then making look like metal
Try to move on from my relationship - every day I still feel sad, but there’s been things happening that make it difficult.
Replace the decking in the garden
Redecorate the bed room - hasn’t been done for 20 years
A lot of this is dependent on injuries. So there may be a huge asterisk next to some of this.
Ideally, I want to do 3 or 4 local running races. Huge local running scene, about 30 events within 15 miles of home every year. Want to pick some of my favourites and get going (did 1 last year).
Do a triathlon. Any will do. Even an overpriced sprint.
If I can get some speed in the old legs, perhaps a Aquathlon.
Return to swimming. After a consistent couple of years, I’ve been twice in 4 months.
Today was my scheduled start day for 2025 build but instead I’m injured and will be for a minimum of 3-4 weeks. Glad I didn’t put ‘remain injury free’ in my 2025 goals as I can now still claim I’m on track
Not sure I’ll be saying the same in 8 weeks after the first half marathon of the year.
In an unusual turn up for the books, it looks like I might actually have ticked one off this year: work less. Have reduced work from 5 days to 4.
The “athletic” goals are proving more challenging. But after a surprisingly pain-free 16km run last week*, maybe 20km without hip pain is is on the cards after all- will see. Its only getting hotter here, so if I don’t try soon it’s going to have to wait until after July.
Fixing the roof remains #1 priority but can’t do that properly until we’re home.
200k audax done with no dramas, but for a few reasons I won’t be starting the 300k I had entered. 1 ParkRun done and I should be ok to get to 50 by the end of the summer if my feet continue to behave themselves. I’ve also put myself on the volunteer list so I’ll do a couple of marshalling slots in the next couple of months.
Similar .. ish
Out of the ten targets I have done two
Longest ever swim (316 lengths of a tiny pool !)
13 press ups a min for an hour.
Arguably Sunday will be another one .. ish.
I won’t get Ali 10 but I’ll tri.
Life wise I’m trying to spend all my pension every month
I’m naturally a tight bastid
Failed miserably in Jan/ Feb but went twenty quid over in March !!!
Cheers mate, they seem to be coming thick and fast lately, a couple of them were very tough, so I’m taking them as wins when it comes to resilience, especially compared to last year when i just had too many DNFs.
Erm, early days for most of mine. I think fitness is improving but working on running endurance for the trail race but on the plus side I haven’t crippled myself doing it.
Two half marathons, one decent, one poor and think if I do a quick parkrun I’ll be sub 20:30 so going in the right direction.
I have done a few trail & fell races and the trail race in America is something I’d like to get between 5-5:20.
Car - also getting close
Work - going to ask about reduced hours when I get back
Weight < 100kg - 109kg getting there
Play majority of cricket matches (assuming Im picked) - season not started
Work my way up from playing in the 3rd XI to the 2s - see above
Finalise divorce - almost there
Start playing tennis (already signed up for beginners course at DL) - done
Make new friends - sort of
Strength back up to where it was (aiming for around 1.25xBW squat, 1.5xDL, 1xbench - 0.65 squat, 0.9 DL, 0.5 bench
Was going to make a joke about getting laid but need to be somewhat realistic - no comment
haha verdict’s still out! Feeling stiff but generally rather than locally, & maybe that’s just because I’m not used to running very far any more. If the hip is still OK by bedtime I’m calling it though
5m30kms felt way harder than they have any right to
edit: think @jeffb is probably referring to my hip injury and goal of running 20km pain free. Well, ran 20km, but this morning it’s a little sore. just a 1 or 2 out of 10. But not zero. So not claiming it yet.
edir #2: club run this morning, that’s 35km in the last 36 hours. Unfortunately I’m now walking like John Wayne. Rats. Back to the drawing board.
