2025 Races

I’m thinking the same at this stage.

Is it a bucket list race by itself, or something you want to do as part of the Majors? Good luck with the ballot!

I’ve seen quite a few people go over to do it from my club. Not actually looked at the race itself in too much detail. What’s it meant to be like?

The issue for me is the timing. Right around both our birthdays (and next year the week before our wedding!), and training for an early March race would be really difficult with my busy period at work through Jan and Feb each year. But…Japan is somewhere we both want to go at some point. For me, Tokyo would probably be the hardest to schedule of the Majors, and would get me half way. At the moment with only 2, it’s not really something I’m thinking about

I think the course is reasonable but not London or Berlin, and with it being early march the weather can be very temperamental!

It is my last of the 6 majors should I get in.

But it leaves it late for training, need to start fairly soon after you get confirmed if you don’t have a huge base, training through December and the worst of our winter

Despite that I do really want to go to see Japan as well, the race is a bonus.

Sorry, I missed this post. It would be something on its own but figured if I was going to pay over the odds, it just as well be a major and this one seems good. On the one hand it’s a bit exotic being in Japan, on the other it suits our Asian household culture.

And that second bit is the problem, Mrs FP and LO really want to go to Japan but it’s not in school holidays. (Mrs FP and I have been before but not Tokyo). There is no way LO will be allowed any time off school because ‘reasons’

So there would definitely be some guilt, which is why I’m glad I didn’t buy a charity spot for ££££. Of course, if I’m lucky, they would support me going and the ballot costs nothing.

Comrades/SA was somewhere that they had no interest in going to and weighing up where I’d want to spend my disposable income, SA doesn’t make the list.

There is a 100km race in Slovenia in Sept that we were keen on but again, not in school holidays.

IM Copenhagen could be moving from a joke, to a viable option but Mrs FP has said that we don’t have to all go for whatever ‘big 60’ race I do. I’m used to travelling and racing alone but it would be sad for such a big occasion.

Is Oz a major yet?

I don’t think it’s been announced, was between that and somewhere in SA.

I’d expect a lot of fanfare when it is announced.

Ok, without Googling, I’m going with:

London
Boston
Berlin
Tokyo
Paris ?
???

No Paris

Chicago and NY

(again without Googling) I don’t think Boston is one, I thought Chicago and NY were… is Paris not?

Edit to add: Damn you JeffB with your speedy typing!

Interesting. I wonder what makes them a Major. (is the answer, money? )

The answer is always money!

They are due to expand the list aren’t they? Too many people done all 6, need to give them something to spend their many on.

Money, status, number of entries. I know other races have huge entries btw

It was 5 originally, I think Tokyo was 6?

Best to get accommodation booked early :grimacing:

Actually, useful reminder that I need to think about it for the bridge half as well

It is right near the finish line and almost £1k cheaper than the nearby hotel.

You know you want to

Not so much a race as such, but considering a pop at Chase The Sun South next year.

Spending the night before on Sheppey does not appeal however

I’m meeting our friend who did CPH on Sept 21st after parkrun. We’re having coffee and a chat about it.

This happens to be the day after I find out about Tokyo marathon, so the stars could be aligning.

I’m sure LO would love it especially if you went to Tivoli Gardens after.
We stayed in one of these (top floor which wasn’t much fun carrying the bike up the stairs after the race) via AirBnB/Booking.com (there was 6 of us) and with their fantastic train/metro system you can stay almost anywhere and get to and from the swim. First time there was 3 of us like you in 1 bed apt and daughter slept on a sofa bed in lounge which worked well.

Ha, had the same in Copenhagen myself, suitcase and bike box up a narrow twisty staircase!

Was battered after that, should have put it on Strava :joy:
