2025 Races

How do you still travel anywhere? Does it ever go smoothly?

Haha, it sometimes goes to plan :joy:

I’ve got a trip to Holland in 3 weeks that I’m nervous about :grimacing:

Although these days it’s the body breaking that’s the biggest problem!

I drove London to Klagenfurt in the Smart Car, 900 miles in all. Mostly because Ryanair introduced a first-come-first-served policy for bikes that year where they’d take the first 12 and turn away the rest.

I quite enjoyed it, especially on the way home where we diverted through Germany and ended up at Dinkelsbühl which is one of the prettiest towns we’ve ever been to.

Anyway, 18 hours drive on the way out, two days on the way back. The two days version is definitely the better option.

Cheers :+1:t3::white_check_mark:
Campsite is free, too

I’m feeling good again, so @Adam mentioning it has me thinking :face_with_peeking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Probably another pipe dream … but one can dream, right?

I can get a spot through the tri club.

I’d probably get the tunnel and camp, got to be something like 10/11 hours of driving. Just stick a decent audiobook on

I can highly recommend The Northern Mindset by @Poet :rofl::rofl:

Yeah, that’s not too bad :+1:t3::white_check_mark:
Is it all pretty much plain sailing?

You’ve done it a few times now, no?

Pretty much.

Early shuttle to avoid traffic.
Turn left into Belgium
Get stuck in traffic around Brussels.
Sat nav gets me to Frankfurt

Park on the same street my hotel is on. No cost until Monday morning,

When I had my T5, I’d sit at 56mph pretty much the whole way and almost be able to do Calais-Frankfurt-Calais on one tank of diesel

Got my Dacia Jogger now, so will be a different driving experience.

For me it takes out the hassle of dismantling the bike and having to worry about getting baggage down to a certain limit.

I think door to door, it’s probably a little longer - 12 hours - but I know everything will arrive at the race.

Any targets after the stress fracture or just get round?

I’m in for Arc100 but still thinking about the BIG 60 race :man_shrugging:t2:

Always avoid driving around Brussels as the traffic is a nightmare. Have you tried Calais - Lille - Mons - Namur - Liege - and then same route as via Brussels? OK, Lille can be a PITA depending on time of day but IMHO is a better route from a traffic viewpoint.

We’ve driven to IM at Frankfurt, Zurich, Klagenfurt and Challenge Roth (serious traffic holdups following a crash) in the motorhomes. Cheaper to stay in the vehicles on campsites and can extend the trip to make it a good break.

we did an overnighter on the way to Klaggers and then came home via the Italian Lakes…
