2025 Races

Thanks everyone, I can confirm I wasn’t in the lead at any point :joy: I think I was third in M55 mostly on the basis the rest are sane enough not to enter :joy:

That was absolute misery, I knew after 30 minutes it was going to be one of those days. Not totally sure why, lack of decent training for 4 weeks but compared to the survival it was completely different.

The cold and wet didn’t help, it stopped and got a bit warmer at 40k but then chucked it down with 3K to go and was completely ruined.

Almost as miserable as CCC but glad I pushed on to the finish.

Not sure what hurts the most so no idea how the knee is :joy:

Expected this and fairly pleased I don’t have the choice as we might need some house repairs!

Hi Jeff,

Unfortunately, your name was not selected in the AbbottWMM draw for the 2025 TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS.

No doubt swiftly followed by - if you still want to compete we have plenty of charity places for the bargain price of $5,000

Haha, funny you should say that but it did mention tour packages from someone but I stopped reading at that point :joy:

I did my first SwimRun on Saturday in/at Princes Docks, Liverpool. The course was R700m, S200m, R900m, S300m & R400m & it was in the format of an eliminator, 26mins for first lap, then 24mins, 22mins, 20mins, 18mins & a race amongst those who made this last cut-off.

It was organised be the same bloke who put together that 4km swim & 13km/13km aquathlon & I did last year. Mike’s a lovely fella, puts on great events & there is always a lovely low-key vibe among competitors/volunteers.

The weather was bright, but there was a brisk wind that had people sheltering in the lee of buildings & provided a constant choppy slap in the face on the swim sections but stopped us overheating on the run. The temp of the water was tolerable enough after a few sunny days & didn’t chill us.

I found the cut-offs for the first couple of laps quite generous enjoying a chat with those around me & clocked 20:17 & 20:10 giving me time to wash out my salty mouth & neck a gel.

The 3rd round livened up a bit at 19:32 & I had to ask my wife which lap I had completed :joy: .

4th round had me coming in at 18:48.

On the 5th round I managed 18:40 so despite giving it full titties I’d missed the cut-off for the final round by 40secs…thank God, as I was gassed.

Not sure how I placed as the results aren’t out yet, but 5 progressed to the final - which was won by Richard Stannard - & there was at least one other lad in front of me that didn’t make it.

Despite being an ideal beginner event I was a wee bit surprised at how unprepared some people were & having practised transitions & using a large pull-buoy & paddles helped a great deal.

Official photos aren’t out yet so atm I’ve only got a few that my wife snapped.

Next SwimRun is 5 weeks away in France with 20km running/5km swimming & possibly heat to contend with.
