As long as my travel agent has done his job properly I’ll be on my way for the 2 races early tomorrow morning! It has felt like a long time since Christmas then the last few weeks has really come round quickly.
First up is the Canyons 50k trail race on Saturday, 4 weeks ago I was really looking forward to it and hoping for around 5-5:15 if things went to plan, not sure now with the knee, not a great deal of running since the 40K survival and all of it flat. Fitness wise I should be alright, but if it plays up it could be a long walk back or the bus
I think there’s a live tracker on the UTMB site and it will probably be starting around 4pm UK time.
Weather can’t make it’s mind up, looking quite chilly and maybe showers, probably not a bad thing as it’s what I’ve done a lot of my training in and I won’t be having a big jump of about 15c.
The course has about 3 climbs in it, but 2 are in the last 14k.
Then the triathlon a fortnight later, can’t decide on this one. I’ve done a bit of swimming but I’m expecting the water to be a bit chilly, although air temps are looking about 30c for the next week or so!
Bike isn’t going too bad and the BL13 races have had a few hard rides in the last 3 weeks. I would have hoped for sub 1:45 on the run but it depends what happens this weekend. It’s too late to defer so I’ll have to at least start.
Edit: they’ve announced cold weather kit for the two long races and possible snow at the start they still have me as 100k somewhere so I get the emails!
Good luck Jeff, nice to see the obligatory bit of sandbagging in that post & hope things go well. Where are these races, or would you rather not say because Greta? Given that a travel agent is involved I guess they’re not just somewhere down the A1(M)
A trip to Poland for the Euro Duathlon sprint champs. My 3rd ever sprint draft legal which is another skill set, after racing at the British champs last month I agreed with my podium chums that I would be the road captain to make sure we got the medals. In the end it was the same result as the British champs with me taking 3rd M50 and a clean sweep of the podium.
Great day out but have to stay sober ish until 8:45 for the medals.
Thanks everyone, I can confirm I wasn’t in the lead at any point I think I was third in M55 mostly on the basis the rest are sane enough not to enter
That was absolute misery, I knew after 30 minutes it was going to be one of those days. Not totally sure why, lack of decent training for 4 weeks but compared to the survival it was completely different.
The cold and wet didn’t help, it stopped and got a bit warmer at 40k but then chucked it down with 3K to go and was completely ruined.
Almost as miserable as CCC but glad I pushed on to the finish.
Not sure what hurts the most so no idea how the knee is
