Nearly, but just want it over now, read the rant thread. The temperature has also significantly increased!
I registered yesterday and just going to drop the bike off and run kit later, hoping to get a short swim as well.
In hindsight doing it at the end probably wasn’t a great idea but I expected it to be warmer before so I could get used to the heat, but it’s been struggling to get over 18c except a couple of days.
I’ll be happy if I get under 5:30, I think I did 5:08 last time but I’ve only swam once in two weeks and the water is supposed to be 17c that’s just about bearable for me. Shame as the swimming felt better when I went away. This also assumes I get some sleep!
Bike should be as it gets warmer, but there’s a 15k descent to get some recovery before the run.
Run is just survival, it’s up and down which I normally don’t mind. But the heat will make it a deathmarch.
This is the temperature for tomorrow, it doesn’t show that the UV will reach 10 even fruity will tell you that’s getting warm
And if poet rants about my transitions, I’ll be stopping to put factor 50 on!
Mark Derbyshire and I were stood next to each other having a pee in the loos at Eco Park before Arc. Obviously he caught too much of my awsome-ness because he broke the record that year and I DNF’d.
Did an aquabike race today. Mass start, 750m swim, 20km draft legal bike.
It was a proper blast. The fastest swimmers formed a group and were out in about 10 minutes, I managed to hitch a ride with the second pack in 11.30 ish.
On the bike the fast guys got away and were never seen again, but 3 of us managed to form a little pace group and got away from the second pack for 2 laps. Then on the 3rd lap we got caught & quite a big group ended up coming home together.
It was very technical with I think 12 180 degree turns and a stiff wind too, so getting the drafting right seemed to be really important. The bike course got quite busy on the later laps as people were in different laps, one hairy moment someone nearly took my front wheel out with an unexpected swing to get onto a wheel. There was also a pretty bad crash, the guy looked in a bad way, the second time we passed him we was being lifted nto an ambulance on a spinal board but thankfully the word at the finish line was that he just had a broken collar bone.
What would have been the dismount line was actually the finish line, but you had to cross it on foot… seemed like a recipe for trouble so I didn’t contest the sprint in our group (also I’m weak like kitten). Unfortunately there was another M50 in the group, which I hadn’t realised. So second old man today.
Great race format though & @Doka , thought of you in particular - you mentioned running was tricky at the moment but Strava suggests you are currently smashing the swim and bike
Good racing Fruity. Yeah I’m still in good shape, biking is the hobby that keeps me sane & I’m still enjoying the swimming. Not giving up on running, will keep trying to find something that works I’m just a bit of a dead end with it right now.
