Well done @jeffb

Was hacking brambles in the garden when I got a notification that you’d finished.

Great job, you, not me and the brambles.

Thanks y’all

Quick reply, that was brutal :joy: not sure I have many days when the swim is my best split! Was a bit surprised with the time.

But I cocked up the queueing and ended up going in late with the 45 minute swimmers  I’ve never seen so many doing backstroke which they shouldn’t be!

Got onto the bike and it was a struggle, stomach was giving me some issues and decided not to push any harder, was already feeling the heat as I put my top on to try and avoid getting burnt and a buff around my neck :joy: I should have brought my aerohead but it would have been even hotter.

The bike was slightly different to the WC course and had some rough roads, there seemed to be very little flat riding. I knew I was well down from before when I got to the top of the canyon.

Messed around in T2 putting sunsplat on and went on the loo, I was dreading the run thinking my stomach would give me trouble. But I got going at a steady pace which felt manageable and started to tick off the K’s, the golf course section is a bit tough but after that it’s downhill to the town.

First lap was about 55 minutes, I thought I’d slow down but hoped I’d still get under 2 hours. The far section felt a lot harder, I was taking time at the aid stations and getting ice to cool me. The stomach felt better but I couldn’t face a gel.

I was walking the little climbs but when we reached the high point I got going again and actually felt better. My watch beeped for 19k and I had 13 minutes to get back so dug in, it felt like I was flying but only just broke a 5 minute K :joy:. Anyway with a bit more pain I was well under.

Felt wrecked since, sat on a wall for a while and then started wretching  actually felt better after that and I’m slowly making my way to the bike collection. I’ve managed a can of sprite and bag of crisps.

The heat is absolutely savage with no escape, the aircon will be on later, soz Greta :grimacing:

A bit further down in my age group than I’d hoped but it’s the North American championship race so the fast people arrived with their A game and a lot will have more experience of the heat than me.

Looking at your Strava, the bike was lumpier than I thought it would be, must’ve been fun in the heat :grimacing:.

Solid racing over the last couple of weeks, travel safe home :+1:.

Did the Lincoln Grand Prix sportive yesterday with my brother. Weather was lovely and the wind behaved and was in our races mostly for the outward section but obviously meant a welcome push home. A case of trying to get my brother on to groups but he was struggling. Good fun event, great finish up Michaelgate.

After the ride I saw Georgia TB and had a nice chat as I rode back to start and she rode a bit more of the circuit for today’s race.

Derwent Duathlon today, a hottie well for me 22° 611m of elevation gain over 36.5km, the bike course shortened due to resurfacing.
Usual story of average run (trail this time) hang on in there in 5th, hammer the bike and make up 3 mins and arrive in T2 first :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:. Then thrash it out on the 5km. Ended up with 2nd overall and first oldie 70s off the win.
Will have to assess how red the exposed bit will be despite factor 30 pre race.
Anyways a kids race compared to the exploits of @jeffb
