24.6° I believe - @fatbuddha would know!
Sounds about right, although I think Nice was about 24 and they were banned for the full. To stop dehydration.
what @Adam says - 24.6C for all ages
I used to be a TO at that event quite a few times when the previous organisers ran it. Was usually a good day out. How weedy was the swim? - that could always be a problem when it got warm.
It was totally fine, was a lovely swim. And yes, still a great little event.
I did that one back in 2014. The wife and I made use of the discounted entry tickets afterwards. I was a bit self conscious of stinking out the queues given there wasn’t a shower!
@fatbuddha would you have possibly done a short talk at the start?
Probably - along with Matt one of the previous organisers. Usually stood on a pile of pallets!
Your a big strong boy, well done.
Could you have worn that Zone3 swimskin, or do you think it would have been more of a hindrance?
Well technically that’s not a wetsuit but then isn’t there the argument that what you’re wearing in the swim has to be worn for the rest of the race?
It would have been a faff getting it off in T1 and despite my average swim I came out of the lake first anyway - the water wa s a lovely temp yesterday.
I’d love to go for a swim tonight but someone had a fatal heart attack in the water yesterday so understandably they’re closed today.
That used to be the rule for sprint and standard distance. Rule has now changed and you must remove the skin after the swim across all distances. Skin material has to conform with regs though.
BTF rule 4.11.c
During the race ?
Duck me that’s shocking ?!?
No separate venue - it was someone having their swim induction at my local swim spot who then had a heart attack in the shallows who sadly couldn’t be resuscitated
Dear me!
There are no words.
Life can be really shit
That’s so sad. I swam there a few times many years ago and it’s good to see the lake still popular. Reading on Facebook there’s a lot of comments saying how professional and compassionate everyone was who was involved in the incident.
Finally got round to deferring my place at Barcelona until next year, so when I’m moaning next year remind me I’ve had at least 17 months to train and get my bike setup ![]()

I do need to decide on the rest of this season after Cots & Steelman. Nothing booked but was considering a 70.3 to see if there was a roll down chance but yesterday has pretty much torpedoed that, but there’s a couple of challenge races.
Fancy Helvellyn but just can’t face the cold water ![]()
Where is the WC? 2025 or 2026?
It would have been for Nice next year, not really interested in Marbella, too much climbing and descending although Nice isn’t flat ![]()
There’s still a possibility if I went to America with a downhill swim if some weren’t interested in travelling but I think unless you’re in the top 5 of your age group you’re wasting your time.
So …
Ended up doing the DFT event this morning
Only 40-45 competitors
Free entry ( to promote a new local gym )
Had 9 days notice….
Been as I’d never done a devil press or a dumbbell snatch before this week it went quite well,
4 cardio options
400 run ( real)
400 ski
400 row
Or
800 m bike.
I went for the bike.
6 x 800 m c2 ( the rowing nachine!)
6 stations
60 dead lifts 32 kg KB
60 dumbbell snatch alternate hands
60 squat to 90 16 kg KB
60 heave press 12.5 kg x2
60 plate from floor above head ( 15 kg plate )
20 devil press 10 kg dumbells x2!
The inventor of the event ( this is basically deadly half dozen as it’s half of what Chris and APM did. )
Turned up
“ deadly dozen “ hat, vest, car and tattoo on his calf like an IM tat!
He won !
Lovely fella and had a good chat to him. ( he’s coining it in !)
Plan was to doss the bike and smash the stations
Kind of worked well.. fastest dead lifts and squats !
lol
Slowest devil presses ! ( booo!) by some margin
Wanted sub 30
Got 25:10
Biceps ?!? Are killing now, enjoyed it
I might join you.
Well done mate!
How were the devil presses!?
