2025 Races

Dear me!

There are no words.

Life can be really shit

That’s so sad. I swam there a few times many years ago and it’s good to see the lake still popular. Reading on Facebook there’s a lot of comments saying how professional and compassionate everyone was who was involved in the incident.

Finally got round to deferring my place at Barcelona until next year, so when I’m moaning next year remind me I’ve had at least 17 months to train and get my bike setup :joy:

I do need to decide on the rest of this season after Cots & Steelman. Nothing booked but was considering a 70.3 to see if there was a roll down chance but yesterday has pretty much torpedoed that, but there’s a couple of challenge races.

Fancy Helvellyn but just can’t face the cold water

Where is the WC? 2025 or 2026?

It would have been for Nice next year, not really interested in Marbella, too much climbing and descending although Nice isn’t flat :joy:

There’s still a possibility if I went to America with a downhill swim if some weren’t interested in travelling but I think unless you’re in the top 5 of your age group you’re wasting your time.

So …
Ended up doing the DFT event this morning
Only 40-45 competitors
Free entry ( to promote a new local gym )
Had 9 days notice….

Been as I’d never done a devil press or a dumbbell snatch before this week it went quite well,
4 cardio options
400 run ( real)
400 ski
400 row
Or
800 m bike.
I went for the bike.
6 x 800 m c2 ( the rowing nachine!)
6 stations
60 dead lifts 32 kg KB
60 dumbbell snatch alternate hands
60 squat to 90 16 kg KB
60 heave press 12.5 kg x2
60 plate from floor above head ( 15 kg plate )
20 devil press 10 kg dumbells x2!

The inventor of the event ( this is basically deadly half dozen as it’s half of what Chris and APM did. )
Turned up
“ deadly dozen “ hat, vest, car and tattoo on his calf like an IM tat!
He won !
Lovely fella and had a good chat to him. ( he’s coining it in !)

Plan was to doss the bike and smash the stations
Kind of worked well.. fastest dead lifts and squats !
lol
Slowest devil presses ! ( booo!) by some margin

Wanted sub 30
Got 25:10
Biceps ?!? Are killing now, enjoyed it

lol
I did 5 on Monday morning ( fresh) and said
“ fuck that “
Same as wall balls .. I’m crap !
One young lad got to them in exactly the same time as me 21:50.
He put nearly 2 mins into me in 20 exercises !

Most went unbroken ( as it’s these and finish)
I was just “ broken “ lol

I’ve got 60 to do.

I might make your day, It’s only 20 reps for the devil press finisher at least! 60 reps of every other station

Nipped down to Weymouth last night for a cheeky swim run aquathlon 1km / 5km. Sort of swim run kit test for the race at the weekend.

Was ok, got around in 36 minutes which I was pleased with. Run felt good.

The guy who won was streets ahead of everyone else: 12 minutes for the swim including transition and then 15 minutes flat for the run, which is admittedly a little short at 4.6km but involves hailing yourself over a big hill twice. 27 minutes, course record, first time I remember seeing anyone under 30 mins. Second place was 5 minutes back in 32 mins.

Crazy how good some people are.

Dad did it too, 54 minutes, he always walks the hill but ended up in a sprint finish for last place which he lost (ie he didn’t come last) & the 2 of them got a round of applause for that which was nice.

The winner had actually finished the whole race before the last swimmer was out of the water.

That will be me the weekend… I’ll be hunting for something for dinner in the lake.

Sounds like a great event.

Tomorrow is a 5.5 hour drive for a sprint race on Saturday lasting just over an hour. Best time to take a day off drive down the M6 in a heatwave.
