2025 Races

Not managed to find the official results but told Grace who swims in my lane (along with Myles who came 12 in AG at Leeds with his 3.02 marathon) won U20 women. She’s said the big cargo boats going past caused a bit of chop and the mini jellyfish made her swim faster and the run was really hot. She has already qualified for next year. Definitely one to look out for in the future.

Beautiful surface for the bike I’m told :pinched_fingers:

I did one of those Triathlon thingies today… a sprint tri

Got a threshold has increased notification on the bike (which was reading under the actual watts as I forgot to change the setting for longer cranks on the bike I was riding, so the calculated threshold was even better than shown)

Bike leg 1.065 IF for 38 minutes

So tired now.

Not a surprise the run was about a minute slower than I would expect… still 22:32 though.

The 10K was a mixed bag today :joy: it was a bit breezy to start with and generally seemed to be in your face for the majority of the race  I started off around 4:10k pace but knew after about 3K that it was going to be a struggle, the legs felt pretty sluggish although my HR was below 10k pace by a bit.

Made it to 5K in 20:56 so on for the sub 42 and that was the twisty part of the course, but we were heading towards the river where it got a bit more exposed, there was about 2K around the football ground where it was tough going and the pace dropped a bit. I knew I wasn’t getting under 42 so just kept going for a decent session.

Got the usual motivation with a K to go and thought I should sneak under 43 but it was also a little drag into the wind bouncing off the buildings. About 3 of us from the club hit the final corner and all put in a bit of a sprint :joy: I stopped my watch on about 42:56!

Although I was a bit off what I wanted I’ve not really ran that pace much and it wasn’t that far off sub 90 half pace and aerobically I didn’t feel too bad excluding the final sprint. If I was a bit fresher and hadn’t had a couple of pints last night and the TT it could have been a bit better.

Although the official chip time has given me 43:05, I’m adamant I was under and started\stopped under the gantry so I’m wondering if the timing mats were somewhat out? A few others from the club think their time is out by a similar margin of up to 10 seconds as well. A few people haven’t got a time and one lad was fourth lady :joy: so something wasn’t quite right.

They also ran out of numbers, mine was a high number from another race, and the last few were just writing numbers on a piece of normal paper, that obviously wasn’t going to end well on a windy day when people were sweating, another lad I know lost his at 6K!

Anyway, not hugely disappointed and a useful idea of current pace.

Isnt that how a good 10km always feels… “not sure Ill get to 5km” keep going “no way am I going to make this to 8km” followed by 2km to go… “can I stop now, fuk it, Im not slowing or stopping now, its been too painfull” You Grind it out.

Nice time.

You went out at my 10km PB pace… I dont plan on doing that and holding on any time soon, if ever.

Id love that… official chip time lower… lol. I assume a typo.

Haha, yeah typo and updated!

10km is a hard distance to run full send. 1km ‘ease in’, 1-3km build, 3-8km hang on and don’t slow up, 8-10km just disengage brain from legs and lungs.

Hurty hurty!

I went with the aim of 4:10k’s knowing I should be able to maintain them for at least the first half and wasn’t far off despite a few twists.

If I’d felt good I would have probably tried to up the pace at 7K and wonder what might have been. But I know I haven’t been training at that pace apart from a few parkrun’s and didn’t want the last 3k to be utter torture :joy:

Did a local sprint du this morning, 2nd on the first run mixed surface type of thing the 1st guy was a min ahead , smashed the bike with fastest of the split of the day including the sprint tri by 90s. Thought I was going to have my first win overall for 2025 but it turned into a @jeffb type 100m sprint for the line and was passed/lost by 1s. :scream: so 2nd overall and 1st super vet. The winner was only 41.

Well done, my sprint finish was almost age graded, the two younger ones from our club beat me but I beat some guy who was possibly M60 :flexed_biceps::joy:

Yes to the 2nd but unfortunately the current didn’t want to play ball and didn’t turn up, otherwise it would have been closer to a 1500m swim. The course was chosen for logistical reasons as it would have been difficult to set a 1500m course with so many athletes where the sprint swim took place. As it happens there were no extractions from the swim so everyone swam the course - there were loads of support boats in case of issues.

Entered a 20M trail race in Otley in a few weeks, fairly small field but should be decent training for the 50K in Italy. I’ll try and get there for the proper start this time and might be able to improve my ITRA index

I’ve got the Vitality 10k in 3 weeks, then negotiating for a half marathon at Battersea Park six weeks from now.

Pacing is a concern. I ran 10k in April at 5:26/km on a flat course in old Peg 38s. I seem to be only good for 5:40/km at the moment in VF2s.

Could be my first all out effort to get well short of a PB.

I’ll put some long intervals into workouts at 5:20-5:30, see how that goes. Do the first 5k at 5:40 and see what’s left.

Yay :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: I should stick with parkrunning!

Might take the propel, less bothered about it getting dirty. And wetsuit boots. I’ve had some bonkers weather for the 70.3’s this year

Good morning,

It has rained extremely heavy over night and we are out assessing the roads for safety purposes.

The lake water temperature will be much lower than expected and it is likely wetsuits will be compulsory, so be prepared.

We would recommend a grippy type of footwear for the run due to the rain and slippy surfaces.

make sure you take a grippy wetsuit as well :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

keeping my eye on the weather too. Heavy rain incoming but seemingly coming later than the forecasts have been saying

I’ll take it coming at 13:00 when I hopefully should be finished.

Weymouth? Good luck and as long as you’re off the bike it probably won’t be too bad.

That’s my line of thinking too. Yeah Weymouth. I’m in no shape to be lining up at all but I’m going to enjoy it as a day out.

I’ll be taking th road bike and lots of wet weather kit but a run in the rain will be fine.

Should have done Helvellyn if you didn’t want to have to wear the wetsuit

The water looks that shallow I can possibly walk the swim :joy:

It’s currently sunny but windy so god knows how it’ll go!
