As per the injury thread I’ve pretty much accepted I’ll be a DN* next week in Italy but will enjoy the few days away and sunshine. Part of me is tempted to go to the start and have an easy walk\jog until around the first aid station, that part of the route looks really nice and there’s a bailout bus from what I can see at the aid stations.

I could always take a huge backpack and fill it with nutrition from the aid station, those Naak products are quite pricey :joy:

Got the Leeds 10K as well, so unless there’s some miraculous recovery I’ll possibly miss that as well as I doubt there’ll be transfers, could go for the day out and jog it but don’t want to set myself back if I’m starting to recover.

A mad Irish friend (is there ever a sane Irish friend??) at IMDE Frankfurt back in 2006 had a bolloxed knee but said he was going to do the swim, bike into T2 in the city and then DNF rather than risk more knee damage. Of course he didn’t - he went and did the whole bloody thing!

I had an appt with my back physio this morning. She does a few road races but her partner is on the cusp of sub 3hr marathon.

They are off to San Sebastian marathon soon but she said her partner shouldn’t really be doing it because he has hurt his knees.

I said ‘don’t you advise him?’ and she said ‘yes but he just doesn’t listen’. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Not much different to some of the advice that one of the forum’s medics has been given when injured which has been suitably ignored.

Typical Y chromosome behaviour :see_no_evil_monkey:

Guilty as charged if you mean moi & the right calf strain thing. Did stay off for it 2 weeks the second time it went though, as per @APM ‘s instructions (he might have suggested longer…) & had a very lazy October.

It feels 99% better now happily. Just the slightest twinge sometimes when running.

Know I should be stretching and doing strength work, but predictably am doing no such thing :see_no_evil_monkey:

The irony is not lost on me.

  1. The fact that I’m telling a Doctor how to manage an injury.

  2. I would also ignore my own advice, and frankly have done several times leading to further calf trouble. Hypocrite.
