We’re on the Eurostar next week. It’s usually fine but I’m curious to see how much faff the EES will be in its first few days ![]()
Yes we just avoided it - they were setting it up as we were coming through..
Have fun! Be interested to hear how you get on.
I’m waiting to see if I get checked in Naples next month. It isn’t fully operational in a lot of places I think but I’d rather register quickly to save hassle in the future. A small flight from Manchester and with a bit of luck there’ll be quite a few that are exempt with EU passports.
French and bureaucracy. I’m sure it’ll be quick n easy ![]()
Another Brexit bonus eh?? ![]()
Many many years ago when I registered my biometrics in the US, the customs officer threatened to shoot me. I’m hoping the French will be a little less aggressive ![]()
But I can use my blue passport and we’ve stopped the boats ![]()
Anyway, that thread is elsewhere, back to races ![]()
Not me but a friend did a swim event in @fatbuddha’s neck of the woods the other day - the ‘Hurly Burly Swim’. A 10k (rather tidal!) swim. It took him 1 hour 17 mins. Hurly Burly 2026 — Level Water: The Power of Swimming
They say the swim normally takes between 1 and 2 hours depending on ability. I’ve done one tidal swim before (3.8k and you start just after the tide starts increasing - so the slower you are the faster the tide gets as you are in the water longer).
Standard swim in any US based race ![]()
Like California where I swam about 53 minutes ![]()
I understand that IM Cozumel is rather quick - where Tim Don got the fastest ever IM time some years ago, helped no doubt by a 44 minute swim.
I had 3 mates - & their wives - doing it & screwing up their Strava AI feedback. I’m not sure if they coincide it with the Harvest Moon each year, but that was adding to the tidal whoosh for them.
In the same area there’s the 13km one I did last year.
Not me but a friend is doing her first Ironman in Portugal today and I’m now totally invested in it
tried to nag her into cycling more but she’s a tough little git! I did manage to help drag her out for a couple of long rides.
She started showing as DNF and dropped out after 50k of the bike but is clearly still going as she’s just gone through 90k and getting splits
not sure why it’s flagging her like that though!
Could it be she’s been pulled for not meeting the cut off but carried on anyway? Someone I knew did that, a few years ago.
Fairly sure she’s well inside, swim was 1:24 but poet would have a stroke about a 16 minute T1 ![]()
I’m wondering if she’s missed a timing mat, on her second lap she had 2 times in 1k near the Lisbon turn which weren’t on lap 1, just hope it doesn’t get her a DQ if that’s the case.
Should do about 6:45 for bike, got 28k to go.
Keep the updates coming… intrigued now. Hope she gets an official finish.
Through 19k on the run in 10:33, run just under 6 minute K’s ![]()
Lectured her and told her how run/walk was legal cheating ![]()
Edit: 6k to go, might just sneak under 13 hours
She’s finished, nail biting 12:59:52!
If she had a TT bike and not wasted so much time in transition she might have got third in her AG
Just hope the time stands and is a mat error ![]()
Skipped the Battersea park marathon which starts in 30mins. Couldn’t really see a point, despite having no other plans. Too much work on my mind probably.
Last scheduled race of the year today, a 10k and a pb. It’s been a good year, pb’d at all distances i entered, 5k, 10k, half, 70.3 and IM. Satisfying to get results after putting in the hard yards, although achieving the same next year is going to be a challenge ![]()
I may have a beer tonight, it wont be a fossies ![]()
