following my rant from yesterday i decided to stick to IM CPH as Nice will be after daughter finishes exams but looking at friend’s this year that seemed to be prom weekend so not fair to prevent her doing that. So I am registered. Now for hotels. Maye do a Nice then Outlaw double when I age up the following year?
Or, go for it and qualify for Nice WC ![]()
haha I would have to quit working to train for that. Or work in education and use all that free time ![]()
Right after a couple weeks of reflecting, I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to back away from full distance races for a year or two. I’ve done five ‘fulls’ over the last three years and four of those have been shite, with one DNF. As arrogant as it sounds, I’m not interested in just pootling around just to get a finish I want to race them and feel like ‘I’ve done well’. I can’t be walking a marathon for a run time that’s almost as long as the bike.
So, I’ve given my Roth space to another club member with a plan to train and race 70.3s next year. I’m super keen on Nice and I think the wife is on board with that as well, I’ll get an entry in after Weymouth is done.
Could be interested in either Cotswold or 113, an Outlaw half with the club sprint and maybe an oly too if the club have do a club champs race again.
Who does thay guy think he is? Glad he doesn’t come around here. ![]()
I’ve had a couple of counselling sessions with my multi-sport therapist, @FatPom and I’m going to aim to get back into the pool over the winter and enter some aquathlons / sprint tris and maybe an Olympic tri.
Good to hear! ![]()
The therapy goes both ways

Great plan
Anything below Ironman fulls can be done on hard work a small amount of talent and blag.
The full distance will find you out every time, as this site proves time and time again.
70.3 for me ( max) next year too !
Has anyone done the long Alp D’huez tri? My girlfriend wants to do it next year and I’m considering coming out of triathlon semi-retirement for it.
How’s running the 20km at altitude? Presumably could be pretty hot in July?
If you’ve done it would you recommend it?
Fairly sure both @jeffb and @fruit_thief have done it
If definitely wager it being incredibly hot
100%
I don’t know if they still do a short course and a long course, I did both. One in 2009 and the other I think maybe 2011
Cracking race, great scenery, lots of climbing if you do the long course -if it’s still the same - 3 big climbs
( don’t know what it’s like to run 20km at altitude… because I ran 8 and walked 12. Due to woeful bike hill fitness , rather than thin air)
Still got the long course t shirt.
I’ve done the short a couple of times & only noticed the alt on the run on one of those occasions
…perhaps I was just more knackered
.
I watched the long competitors go past our campsite. Once it was absolutely baking, the other time was freezing & pissing it down.
Yeah, did the long course in 2010 I think, that’s actually my profile pic on here ![]()
It was a nice dry day when I did it, I’d have been terrified in the wet on the descents otherwise.
I’m fairly sure the long route bike is slightly longer now as well, about another 18K with climbing from what I’ve been told, but I’m fairly sure I got the run nearer to 19K.
I’ve wanted to go back for a few years and it is tentatively in my calendar for next year.
There’s a duathlon on the Tuesday which is fairly short and straight up ADH I think, I’d fancy a double header and seeing if I could go sub 60 on the alpe.
Don’t really remember the altitude, I think it’s about 2K so enough to take the edge off any heat but I don’t recall any issues, different to when I went up to Pic Blanc and it was a struggle. But I’d already been cycling for a few days up some of the climbs like the Galibier which is higher.
3200m of ascent on the long course bike so it pays to do some homework. A lot more than I did at any rate.
If you live somewhere flat, well, it’s unlikely your perineum will still be on speaking terms with you by the end of the day.
Certainly aren’t going to find long climbs like those in the UK but Zwift will help and if I do 100k over the moors I can easily rack up 2k ascent.
ask @jeffb to show you double Bologna. He loves it and I’m pretty sure is just sad there isn’t a triple ![]()
I think spoons or Mrs MW22 are the real demons for that kind of thing ![]()
Cheers, glad to hear it is a decent race.
I’m alright on the climbs and have been to the Alps (not Alp D’huez) , Dolomites and off to the Pyrenees on Friday so not too worried about the climbing (although never run after those big days!). Less confident on the descents tho but would just use a road bike.
I’d probably do the long one but need to get back swimming, I sacked it off as my pool options aren’t great but I suppose I can get through 2k pretty easily.
At the end of July I should hopefully have had some exposure to training in decent weather.
