Ahh bugger
, yeah don’t go there so hadn’t seen it.
Yep - can see the snow on the summit from here
Supposed to be worse tonight - forecast is for about 20cm of snow and windchill about -20
Meanwhile at sea level it’s been a lovely day
There are worse things than by chilling by the pool
Trying to persuade Mrs T to come do the 24k route tomorrow- see what the weather looks like tomorrow
Got the trail race tomorrow, something like 20k with 900m ascent/descent. It’ll be comfortably the furthest I’ve ran since September!
No real targets, the utmb index suggests 2:25 but I think it’s optimistic. I’ll need to see how the leg goes, there’ll be bits of walking on the hills which might help and worst case I’ll probably walk it home as I don’t think there’s a bailout bus.
Need to be up early though, well maybe a sleepin for APM
as it’s about an hour’s drive and then bus from the car park, and I need to pick my number up before the race.
Which race is it?
It’s just the half, starts at 8.
Enjoy!
Nice work @jeffb
Slightly late! It was an enjoyable race on Sunday and the course was really nice but constantly rolling with very few flat sections. I think it was also at least 1.5k longer than the previous year but mostly the same.
I did my usual thing of messing around and then being at the back of the field over the line. On one hand that stopped me from going to quick, but also meant I was weaving through people that were a lot slower and also couldn’t descend!
The knee was surprisingly alright but even after 6k I could feel the legs getting sore from the descending as the first K or 2 was downhill. There was then quite a long technical descent, the Asics were quite harsh on the hard ground but probably more due to my lack of recent trail running and descending. Quite a few people went back past me as I could feel the knee a bit and decided to be sensible.
I was enjoying the run and we then got to the only aid station at 14K where I got some coke and energy bar and got going again. About 16k was where I fell, I stumbled and was trying to stay upright before finally going over onto my RHS. I was a bit dazed and sat up, a few people asked if I was alright and two gave me a hand up. I slowly got on my way again.
It was a bit of a struggle in the last 3K especially as there’s a climb into the town right at the end.
I clocked at least a minute faster than the official time above, but I think they just timed everyone from the gun and it took nearly a minute for me to get over the line.
I think if I was in the shape I was last September I might have been 5-8 minutes faster including the fact I’d have got nearer the front.
But was really pleased to only be 15 minutes behind the age group winner.
I know tunster has done the race, although it’s a bit remote with twisty roads it was really well organised and a great race.
Agree it’s a great series of races in a lovely area
Some great names raced there over the last few years due to its Golden Ticket status - Jim Walmsley, Killian, Courtney, Fi Pascal and now the mighty @jeffb
Some lovely wine in that neck of the woods as well
Paging @leahnp
Wonder if it is draft legal?
Not sure but you could message them, if it’s circuits of a track it will be difficult to enforce as 5K won’t split the field much.
Just entered our local 10k race that’s in about six weeks time. I can run about 20 mins for 5k but need to do some longer efforts at pace. I’m guessing I could run 42/43 if the race was tomorrow. Maybe I’ll try and put some focus in over the coming weeks.
26 weeks 1 day
A strange mild panic set in when I realised ^ this ^, well a few days ago when it was 26 weeks and x days. For some reason I thought there were 29 - 30 weeks to go.
Not enough time to start the Fink 30-week plan(s) from the beginning then

“The programs [30 week] are based on training time. The Competitive Program requires an average of about 12 hours per week of actual training, with a maximum week of 20 hours. The Just Finish Program averages only about 7 hours per week of training, with a peak week of 10 hours. For those who feel their possible time commitment will probably be somewhere between these two programs, there is the Intermediate Program, which averages about 10.5 hours per week in training and peaks with 15 hours.”
Is that for Barca? I’d rather you didn’t remind me!
Can’t swim because of my shoulder, running is limited from my knee!
Yes it is.
It’s still a long time but when it is 3-4 week less than you had in your head its a bit of a suprise.
I guess 26 weeks being six month feels significant ![]()
For reasons that have more to do with work than anything else, has anyone done the Stroud Half Marathon that takes place in Oct?
Yes, a couple of times.Well organised without being too big and serious. Mostly flat around country lanes, except for a ramp at 6 miles and a steady climb back to the finish at the end.
Probably the fastest route around here so popular with the top locals.
Great, thanks mate ![]()
Planned Keswick long weekend - potentially not bothering now as forgot to put in leave for Friday and have been allocated an evening shift.
Also planned Northumbrian 70.3, and now wife has booked theatre tickets Saturday night.
Want to do something, so guess options are Lakesman, Slateman, or Northumbrian and rearrange.
Question - does Northumbrian being GB champs actually change the event/who turns up etc or is Lakesman still likely to be the bigger event?
Any other feedback? Think I’ll lean to Slateman and use it as a long weekend away. Every search for it on TT just talks about the Arctic swim temperatures, and only half of the complaints are JeffB
