2026 Races

Just received an email from Ironman about Sunday. They’re putting on extra aid stations and showers for the run, hyponotraemia must be a big risk?

But I don’t see how algae is going to go before then given the forecast is getting warmer!

It would make things a bit easier, I’d also be happy to start at 6am but that would be a lot more difficult to organise at this stage.

Swim Update:

The Palace has notified us that there has been a bloom of blue-green algae in the lake where the swim is scheduled to take place. We are closely monitoring and testing the water quality. If the quality does not improve, this may impact our ability to hold a safe swim. In the case of a cancelled swim, we will commence with a time-trail bike start. Further information about what this process will look like will be shared on e-mail once a final decision, based on official water test result, has been made.

Edid - ignore me, that was Swansea

Just read about the guy who died last year.

“A post-mortem examination recorded his cause of death as “exertional heat stroke” which caused cardiac arrest”

Might be affecting decisions

Confirmed. I’d kind of lost interest now but have 3 days to spend here, I might ride some of the bike on Sunday morning if I can get up!

An expensive holiday I otherwise wouldn’t have booked but nothing I can do and will move on. Can’t see me making a rearranged race this year for various reasons.

Apparently some have travelled from America but guessing they’ll have longer holidays.

At least I can get another bag :joy:

This morning, the Préfecture des Yvelines issued a formal request to IRONMAN France to postpone IRONMAN 70.3 Versailles due to the rising temperatures and the potential impact on health and safety resources in the region.

In its notice, the Prefecture stated:

The district has been under an orange heatwave alert since Tuesday 7 July 2026 and is currently facing a severe risk of natural wildfires. Furthermore, a deterioration in weather conditions has been forecast for the coming days.

These circumstances no longer allow this sporting event to be conducted under conditions that ensure adequate health and safety for the public and for all personnel mobilised for its organisation.

Since receiving this notice, we have discussed at length with various officials in local and national government, exploring every possible option that would enable us to safely deliver the event while respecting the guidance of the public authorities and the measures set out within our heat contingency plans. In conversation with officials, an agreement was reached to postpone the event to date later in the season in order to support public health and safety.

We are deeply disappointed that we cannot hold this race this weekend as planned, but we thank the city and Palace for working fast to help us find a solution that will still allow you an opportunity to race in Versailles later this season. We are committed to continue supporting our athletes and our host communities as we navigate through this extreme weather event in the region together.

If you are already on-site or planning to travel to Versailles, you will still be able to pick up your event backpack and t-shirt in the registration tent, Avenue de Paris, from Friday (11am to 7pm) to Saturday (9am to 3pm).

Our immediate priority is to confirm the new date of the race, and we will communicate this, alongside other options for registered athletes such as refunds and transfers. We are working through these as quickly as possible and will update further in due course.

I can have a quick search for you and see if there’s another triathlon nearby? However there have been a lot of cancellations due to the heat.

Thanks for the offer but I can’t see many going ahead if the area has cancelled? I’ll probably ride some of the bike route as I’d downloaded it anyway.

It’s nice riding around there. I used to live that side of Paris and get out around those roads. The Vallée de Chevreuse park is lovely.

Despite a lack of training (putting it mildly), I’m getting a bit antsy for an race.
Thinking of rocking up to Dorney for a Run Through event on Sunday. What the worse that can happen? (don’t answer  )

Fair enough - a five km parkrun in Sunbury, just down the road was enough to blow my socks off yesterday
