Hopefully my shoes won’t fall apart.

They look pretty well taped up now!

Well they bike laps are shorter than I’d done previously, so there’s not as much time to get full aero,…

I’m only taking my Propel so do have the drops, expecting a lot of stop/start out of the hairpins.

@funkster Looks like we’re racked almost next to each other! Alphabetical, that’s about the last I’ll see of you! Close to being non-wetsuit and air temperature might decide it.

Anyway, kind of double header for me this weekend and now doubting my choices again

I’m doing an audax around York tomorrow, the route I’ve entered is 160k with about 1400m ascent, looks like a nice route. But I’ve then got to get back in the car and drive to London, before getting up about 5:30 to do the standard triathlon.

there’s a 100K option that I’ve downloaded the route for and could probably swap to but this was meant to be a good long ride. I’m also looking at the wind forecast which will be head\cross for most of the last 2 hours. Something in between would have been better!

Then on Sunday the standard distance race, this is mostly a training race to get the brain into racing a triathlon as I nearly always make some schoolboy error on the first race which would be better this week than in France the week after. And a standard distance isn’t going to cause too many problems.

Can’t see me getting much under 2:40 if the distances are accurate as the bike is advertised as 42k. Possibly slower if it is non-wetsuit. I’ll be happy with a 47 minute run!

I need to pack all my stuff first though!

Bridge Olympic Tri

Signed up on Tuesday for a bit of fun after the Frankfurt misery

Almost thought @jeffb was gonna be a no-show but he turned up with about 20 mins to go.

Water temp was 22 so wetsuit on. Swim a bit short and out in 23:35 and about 10th

Very leisurely T1 - 2 mins

Onto the bike which is 6 laps with 4 dead turns and 2 90 degree turns. No real target other than to go on feel and see what happens.

Again the Cadex is super fast. I was freewheeling into the turns and not sprinting out. Nothing exciting other than hurling abuse at the guy who was in 2nd who drafted the whole bike leg.

Had there been one more lap, I’d have been in the lead, as only ended up about 200m behind the lead pair.

1:02:46 which seems to be the fastest of the day by 45s

Into T2 to continue to tell the cheater what I thought as he sat on the ground. Then told the refs and a spectator agreed that he’d seen him doing it.

Onto the “run” which was always going to be hard due to tired legs from last week.

Rapidly went from 3rd to 4th to 5th to 6th.

Started to warm up after the first 5km and then just pootled along for a negative split.

Over the line in 2:17 for 9th.

Then the second wave had one guy who went faster, who was also 50-59 so bumped me to 2nd AG

Fun day out and again shows the new bike is fast.

Might do a local sprint in a couple of weeks for some more fun

Ah Id have entered and raced with you if I’d realised you were in. Well done - the route keeps you thinking doesn’t it?

Well done, funkster, good to meet you, until I thought you were going to lap me on the bike so I had to push on lap 5 :joy:

Couldn’t believe it when I saw the results and someone else appeared! I think I dropped 3 more places

I’ll post something later, but a great little event, the dead turns made it a bit more interesting as I was often making a bit of ground on people on TT bikes that exited in the wrong gear!

Hard weekend for me with 2 events, the audax was a bit of a nightmare! I’d woken up during the night and my sinuses were going mad, probably a combination of swimming and pollen. I’d already decided I wasn’t doing the 160k route, then woke up with a nosebleed! Got to HQ nearly in time but after some faffing and the loo I missed most people setting off

Then both my garmins decided they didn’t like the route I’d uploaded :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: the watch actually restarted when I tried to load it! After about 35 minutes of trying to sort it I was in a complete strop and gave the organiser the brevet card back and said I’d go for a ride. Then I had one more go from ridewithgps and it bloody worked! I decided as I was there I’d get on with it and was going a bit fast due to my anger :joy: about 35K it started heading west into a strong wind,I’d already gone past quite a few as I didn’t stop at the cafe. Got to Fountains Abbey and bought what must the most expensive can of Pepsi in the world.

After a few little climbs it was fast all the way back. I was feeling it though and glad I didn’t do the longer route, but I did a bit more to get 4 hours in. Then got in the car and drove to Dartford. I was having a right annoying day then realised I’d forgotten my phone charger and the dart toll site kept rejecting my payment so went to bed in a right strop and had a crap sleep.

Got up at 5am and went to register before everyone else then came back for my kit, you can see the lake from the hotel. Got my stuff sorted and was pleased to hear wetsuits were permitted. Caught up with funkster and was admiring his bike!

Swim was uneventful but slow, I didn’t want to push and it was the longest single swim since September, got out in about 27:30 but it was about 150m short. Did my usual messing around in T1 and also put a long sleeve top on as I was a bit cold, this came back to haunt me later

I was pushing fairly hard on the bike and was on the propel again, the course has a small drag and the dead turns mentioned above but is reasonably fast and some of the best surfaces I’ve raced on in the UK. From about lap 4 I saw funkster on a straight and could see he was gaining but maybe 40 seconds per lap. My bike split was 68:xx and looks like 12th overall which was pleasing, I went past quite a few on TT bikes.

Rattled through T2 which I’m very good at! And set off on the run, watch beeped for 1K and when I saw 4:33 I was a bit concerned that I’d pay for it later! I kept going though and could hear someone catching me slowly, she got on my shoulder and stayed there for a while before falling back. I kept the pace going and finished the first lap in 22:08 which was pretty much 5K dead on.

Kept going and ticking off the K’s then with about 3k to go a couple of people went past but didn’t really drop me but I couldn’t catch them, they were both in my age group! Hung on until the finish for nearly an even pace, I’ve looked at my splits and they are pretty consistent.

Very surprised and pleased about the run as I thought it would be more like 47, and on limited training that was pleasing but would struggle to keep up much longer. Total time was 2:24 which I was happy with, bike and run were pretty much correct distance. It’s actually one of my more satisfying races as I did try to push myself all the way.

Looked at the results later and 4th-8th in M50-59 had 29 seconds between us so I need to improve T1 in short races  having said that I’d normally expect the swim to have been a couple of minutes faster. I was 8th.

Great little race but I’m knackered now so having a very easy week before the 70.3.

That guy in the Italian Age Group kit was ridiculous - he drafted behind me for the whole bike and wouldnt listen to me, you plus others shouting at him! I tried getting him to go in front a couple of times on the first 2 laps but when he was on the front he was slowing me down so I resigned to the fact that he was going to draft me the whole way. He ran shoulder to shoulder with me to 7k on the run and he was cutting corners I called him out and he was like if theres no cones you can go where you want. Its a local tri not a world champs it was obvious where you were supposed to go! Really pleased to drop him in the last couple of k would have been annoyed if he d beaten me! Well done on a strong bike was scared you plus another guy were going to make the catch!

I did think about not shouting at him, but then it just became funny.

Did it on the run as well and he told me to “f**k off”

Well done on the win

Arh I remember a local sprint triathlon, a few years ago.

Someone had his mate on the bike course (not part of the triathlon) and drafted behind him almost all the way.

I gave them both a torrent of abuse. I passed him on the run and did the same.

Not content, I found him after in transition and had a third bite at him.

Jokes on him. I look mean but couldn’t fight sleep.

People losing their shit on faceache over a potential non wetsuit swim in Swansea, “I’ve never tried to swim without buoyancy shorts or my wetsuit”

get out the race then, you ain’t ready for a 1.9km sea swim

They will find a cool patch… the did last year when the same weekend we did non-wetsuite at the Cotswold Classic (not salt water there either) and I managed it somehow.

Let them know they should be more worried about the the Jellies.

Thankfully I never saw one when I did it but there lots the first or second year.

only moon jellies there, they don’t bite, unlike the locals
